  • A similar thing has happened to me, but with my debit card. I can't believe it. I bought the FOREX from M&S who don't charge commission, used by debit card and was obviously charged in £s and yet I have been billed by VISA for this. Customer services where not interested in refunding me the money so I have written and complained. I am extremely annoyed as I take such care to avoid these charges.

You can use a '&morecard' to buy

Are you sure of this? If this is correct, the &more card is the only card that does not treat foreign currency purchase as a cash advance. Strictly speaking, it is a cash advance.

Last time I used this Linda, there was no charge. You have to order at least £500 worth though.

It's a brilliant service. You order on the website, delivery is very quick (you have to sign for it so someone needs to be at home) and the best bit:

It is charged to your credit card and, if you time it right (ie immediately after a statement date), you have several weeks before you have to pay for it!

Have had no need for the service for a while so you will need to check the present position. M&S are very helpful.

£500 in foreign currency seems like a lot of cash for your Costa del.. holiday. Lovely idea from M&S, but how practical/useful is it? Some authorities don't allow this much currency to go through customs.

There is the security aspect of course but you can use the hotel's safe deposit.
I'm surprised you think £500 is a lot - surely people get rid of that in the week/fortnight?
Can't understand that last bit - Uzbekistan perhaps but not Spain surely?
When was the last time you were asked how much cash you had on you at Customs?
And if you said £18.96 and 237.76€ what do you think they would have done?

£500 cash alot of cash for a holiday? I spend more than that on a 3 day city break. I took £1500 in Euros for a fortnight in Italy and still withdrew more.
    I have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.
