Hi there,
I have some Spanish lessons on a cd and would like to put them on an MP3 player to walk around with as CD is too bulky. I am a senior so do not understand the difference between rip and burn etc. Please could someone tell me in everyday language how I get the information from the cd onto the mp3 player please? I have some programmes on my pc like nero but do not fully understand them. Do I need to download some other programme to be able to do this and if so which ones does anybody recommend that are safe and not infected with spyware? Thanks all
Taffy

What type of MP3 player?
If it's an iPod, just install iTunes (which either came with it, or just download the latest version free from Apple at: http://www.apple.com/uk/itunes/ - totally safe and free from spyware.
Run it, put your CDs in, it will "rip" them, and then choose which to sync with the iPod and connect it to the PC.
If it's another MP3 player the process will be similar, but using different software.0 -
It is just a cheapo mp3 player with 2 gb. I got it to just record things like the Spanish on. I do not even know what an Ipod is but my kids might but they live in Canada too far away to help. What type of MP3 player?

Anyone got any advice on what software I should use? Thanks
It did not come with anything just a really cheapo mp3 player that I ordered off the net.0 -
Does it come with a USB connection?
Most of the cheapie ones you just plug in via USB. Then CUT and PASTE the files into the mp3 player via MY COMPUTER:idea:0 -
yes it comes with a usb connection. I understand cut and paste but do not understand how to do it from a cd to the mp3 player. I know you highlight text and can move it around but do not know what you mean. Will someone please explain in laymen's terms to me about rip and burn and copy I get confused. You can use iTunes, Windows Media Player (should be installed on your system), or many other third party applications such as WinAmp to convert (rip) your CDs to MP3 files.
You run one of the applications, (check the settings that it'll convert to MP3, rather then WMA or other file formats), then insert your CD, it'll ask if you want to add it to the library / convert to MP3, say yes, if it's up-to-date it'll fetch the track and CD details and fill in the information and "rip" the CD to the hard disc, a separate .mp3 file for each track.
Make sure you make a note of where the MP3 files are going to be saved (often listed in the applications Preferences dialog). But it'll usually be somewhere like: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\My Music\ etc
Then, as aliEnRIK says, copy the MP3 files from your hard disc to the MP3 player, just like you would move a file from one disc to another.0 -

How do you do that please? I put the cd into the computer and then what and I have the Mp3 player plugged in too with a USB what now? Sorry but I am not very with it but trying to learn. Also if I find some poetry or music on the net how do I put this on the MP3 player for my hubby? Thanks0 -
So do I have to take all the 8 cds and save them onto my computer first and then copy them onto the mp3? yikes I am no good at this but I must learn it is the future and I want to stay with the times. Where could I learn more about all this? Taffy0

Put the cd in your drive
Open WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
underneath 'RIP' is a down arrow, click it
set format to MP3
then click RIP (top of screen)
click START (Bottom left of desktop)
click MUSIC
Find the files you just ripped
RIGHT click and COPY
click START (Bottom left of desktop)
click COMPUTER (Or MY COMPUTER)
find the USB device (Or put it in now if you havnt already)
RIGHT CLICK on it and PASTE
Give it a go and let us know if it worked ok

I use CDex
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
It does online lookups to fill in track and album names.
You can convert to MP3 (It uses Lame). And you can set the quility quite easily.
For instance if you are listening to the mp3s through your car stereo where you get poor acoustics anyway you can squash the files to about 0.5MB per minute. If you are listening through headphones or a good hifi you can rip at 192kbps which is pretty close to CD quality.
Unlike Itunes it doesn't take over your PC.
Also it's free (and open source).:think:0 -
Hi all,
I have spent all day trying to put Spanish on these cheap mp3 players. It didn't seem to work on my laptop and kept coming up with an error message saying that media player could not find the files, there is an error blah blah. I do not know if it is the mp3 or the pc. oh it is playing on my hubby's pc now which is where I downloaded it but it does not play at all on mine. Sigh I do not know why the media player does not work on mine. Thanks for all your help anyway. Taffy0
