Finished Baskets - Part 2

I belong to a group at my church for people in their twenties and each week around 20 of us have a Bible study at the house of a couple from our church. As they give up their home and make masses of tea (and wash a lot of cups) every week we normally buy them a Christmas present. After being on this thread I have had a brainwave, rather than collecting money and someone having to make the decision of what to buy. I am going to find a basket and have people all contribute something to it to make a basket of treats. So if they are a student they could offer a voucher for a night of babysitting, or make some cookies, if they are money rich and time-poor they could buy some wine, if they are creative they could make something for the kids or some home-made chutney or jam... I told some of my friends and they said I was very thoughtful, didn't mention that I stole most of my ideas from you lotGod is good, all the time

Sian, that's a really thoughtful idea and means that everyone has an input on the present. Perhaps you could encourage everyone to put a little tag on the treat in the hamper saying how much this couples charity means to them, etc.0

I would say it depends on how deep your basket is: ie: do you just use one length of cellophane to wrap it or two bits overlapping each other. Does that make sense? If you just need one length to wrap it I would guestimate needing about 3 metres per hamper. If you need two lengths I would guestimate 6 metres per hamper. This would be for hampers tied at the top with a ribbon, IYKWIM. If your wraping the hamper more like you'd wrap a normal present and sellotaping the cellophane underneath then you'd probably only use 1.5-2 metres per hamper.
Hope that helps, but it is only a guess from ones I've done.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -

That's a brilliant idea. My son's school have asked parents to donate gifts for a hamper (each year has a colour theme) that will then be raffled. I did winder if the idea came from someone who visits this site as it's the sort of thing someone on here would come up withMy son's class' hamper colour is red so I bought a box of Maltesers and found a big tub of bath melt in Tesco for £1.24 (hugely reduced) that had a wine-red label.

Can I pick a few of your brains??
I'm doing a caravaning hamper for my dad and stepmum, so far i have
Caravaning guide 2009
Bottle of champers
Newcastle brown ale for dad
Retro sweet box
Slipper socks for both
Biscuits
Thats as far as I have got, what else can I add as I want to put a few more bits in? they arent into smellies or anything like that.
I was thinking of a dvd game, can anyone reccomend one...plus anything else you think might be appropriate to add?
How about a notebook/journal so they can record where they go and what they do, could include photos of places, people etc.
I bought my OH tiddly winks from M&S, will be a bit of a laugh! That would be a caravan friendly game and doesn't take up much room. If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0
