Hi,
I have just got a new car (Ka) and I am keen to know the servicing costs for the next 3 years aappx. I know it's a difficult one to call but am hoping there may be someone on here who work for a ford dealer garage who can help.
The reason is I can can buy 3 years servicing for £405 (which includes breakdown for years 2 and 3 (already included in year one when bought car) and the 3 services that come in the 3 years). What I dont know is if £405 is a good buy for the 3 services and years 2 and 3 break down or whether am better getting my own breakdown and just going to the dealers and paying when I get there.
Can anyone help this motor dumb girl out?
THANKS!

that seems like a good deal.
you will pay around £130 for an interim service and £160 for a major service roughly, with ford main dealers. breakdown cover will be at least £35 (unless you do the quidco cashback thing,it could be as little as £11 per year)
personally if it was me and i was looking to keep the car for a long time i would never take it to a main dealer unless warranty work of course. the ka is a fairly basic car and could easily be well serviced by a good independant garage. it will be better looked after there than at a main dealer and a good garage will give the car a more personal touch rather than text book stuff at the dealers....work permit granted!0 -
Doesn't sound bad but I suspect they may "find" unnecessary work in the third year on things like brake discs, drums and pads etc which won't be included in the £405 and will be overpriced.0

In order to comply with the warranty I have to go to an approved dealer, once it's out of warranty I'll go to my usual garage. Will mull it over a bit - I kinda feel like I'd just rather face the cost each year rather than find £405 just before Xmas even though it's got employee discount it's still a lot for me to find cash at this time of year.
Thanks very much for the replies!Debt: LBM = Oct 07 - £21k. DFD - [STRIKE]DEC 10[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]JUN 10 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]MAY 10[/STRIKE] [STRIKE] MAR 10 [/STRIKE] 5th FEB 10 £0 :money:

no you dont need to use the main dealer, just make sure the independant garage uses genuine ford parts when servicing and services it according to the manufacturers service spec....work permit granted!0 -

...and is VAT Registered.
Providing the garage is VAT Registered, uses geunuine Ford parts, and services according to the service specification, your warranty will remain intact thanks to a lovely EU Court ruling. The dealers won't tell you that, of course, as it would lose them some business #145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

The problem is its very easy for a simple oversight at the local garage to void a warranty.
Also any issues outiwth the warranty may attract a ford contribution if you have had it serviced by them, not if it was serviced anyway
405 is pretty good for 3 years servicing and breakdown cover.
I doubt a garage and breakdown company would beat it by much, especially not for the added "reliability" and comeback of having a full manufacturer service history0 -
No! £405 is far too high for three years servicing!!! Good lord folks, what are you advising here?
Breakdown cover???? Excuse me, but if the car is under warranty - you shouldn't be paying breakdown cover anyway!
Wakey Wakey guys.....
Charlie find an independent - as said before by previous poster, you do NOT have to go to rip off dealerships for servicing whilst your car is under warranty.Genie

Jeannie...you are giving erroneous advice here. When you buy a new car (Ford and most brands) your first year only is covered with RAC/AA style recovery/breakdown cover.
Extending that to 2-3 yrs is a cost option in most cases. The 3yr deal of servicing and the extra cover for £405 isn't bad at all...as other posters have correctly pointed out...£130 a year to cover servicing and extended breakdown is ok!
To the poster: jujst ring a few Ford dealers within, say, 20miles radius and ask what their current menu service pricing is for your Ka..they'll vary a bit as a lot of the cost of servicing is made up of labour cost. That 20minute exercise will give you an idea of value. Without knowing what part of the UK you are in you may find the £405 suddenly looks good...or average...depending on your regional area and the costs locally.“Official Company Representative

wakey wakey yourself, when was the last time you priced a service at a main dealers?
come on jeanie,wakey wakey.:p
we all know indie is the best way to go and we have advised that but also said the price from the dealer is a good price considering what they charge individually.
i dont think you get 3 years breakdown cover with a ford ka. year 1 yes but no more unless you pay for it.
i think you need to go and have a good lie down.;););)...work permit granted!0 -
OP, please take jennieblue's words with a pinch of salt....
I don't know if she meant that breakdown cover should be included for the three years (which it usually isn't) or just that you don't need it because the car is under warranty (but that doesn't help when you breakdown on the motorway and can't get it to the garage for a warranty repair).
My GF had her Fiesta serviced on Monday - 1 year (12,500 mile) service.
She got the car from Bristol Street Motors and they wanted £160 to service it plus £10 towards insurance on a courtesy car.
I had seen an advert for another Ford garage a while back in local paper so rang them.
£98 for the service and free courtesy car all in.
Was about 30 miles further away but well worth it to save £70....
I would imagine the 25,000 service is about the same price, but the 3rd year 37,500 mile service will be a bigger one and will cost more...
So the price you have doesn't seem too bad for the three services and breakdown for three years.0
