Didn't use bottles at all as breastfed until 12+ months. Then had a drink of milk in cup with 'supper' - usually cereal or a slice of toast, teeth cleaned and then bed.

Mine gave up bottles at around 10 months. They progressed to sippy cups and now drink out of regular glasses or mugs. My dd still has a small cup of milk 2-3 times a day and she is 8!
  • My 2 girls both stopped having milk in bottles at 12 months and went on to sippy cups, they still have milk now before bed in a normal cup. The main reason I did it with DD1 was because she didnt drink much water/juice out of a cup and I wanted to get rid of the bottle to encourage her to drink more and it worked, so I just did the same with DD2.

I normally got rid of the bottle as soon as they turned 1 - milk in a cup after that.

I must admit DD went a couple of months over - she is my youngest (and last) and I was holding on to that last bit of babyness :o

  • My DD is 18 months and she's *just* come off a bottle this week. She was bfed until 10 months and couldn't cope with the flow rate from a cup so it's been an ongoing battle! I'm say let your LO drink all the milk they want at nighttime, it's excellent in terms of calcium and nutrition plus it's a very relaxing way to help them tip off to sleep.

my eldest son gave up bottles during the day @ 9 months and before bed @ 16 months ( he still had before bed milk, but in a cup)

my youngest on the other hand .....he LOVED his bottles and was almost 3 by the time i decided to go cold turkey, and completely take them away!

he cried / asked for them for 2 nights, and that was it

MUCh easier than i had expected, and had put it off for ages !

I think that as soon as a child can manage a cup then the bottles should gradually disappear over the next couple of weeks....
Breastfed babies don't ever get used to a bottle so its not a problem.. mine used to sip water from a spoon so never used a bottle...

My boy is 19 months and still loves his milk first thing in morning and last thing at night, using a bottle. I expect this will carry on for a while but he will let me know when he has had enough of it. He isnt the best at teeth brushing (chews the brush and refuses point blank to let me do it, clamps his teeth together) so it does slightly concern me, but has juice from sippy cups in the day.

I swapped bottles for cups at 10 months. I used a winnie the pooh bottle/cup I got from Boots for the transition, it has a sippy cup shaped teat. He is now 1 and has a cup of milk in the morning and one in the evening.
Finally, I can see you crystal clear
