That is interesting, may I ask who " instructed " Barclays to improve their balance sheet over and above what is needed?

New capital ratios were "agreed" with the FSA in early October. Essentially, we were told to "improve" our balance sheets by one part of the government, and then another part of it offered to lend us money.

    Somewhat underhand, I think...

  • I like this bit of BM's post (yeah, I read it all, I'm sad and bored on Saturday morning):
Send me a private message with your complaint reference, or even the name of the person you claim you dealt with. I'll go have a look, and if there's even a shred of proof to your claim, I'll send you a nice apology on paper from my office.

Oh, SNAP. Bet money no such PM arrives. :D

But surely all of this has come about by the mess that the banks have bought upon themselves and us in the first place.

So, two people who claim to work for major banks want me to send personal details to an anonyomus person on an internet forum! How professional!

In his reply to my post where I detail my complaint about Barclays BM states catagorically "we do not have Customer Relations Officers". Given that I have on file here at least a dozen letters from three different Barclays employees (one who has since left) who use the title "Senior Customer Relations Officer" under their signature, it is a little hard to believe anything BM claims.

In my response to that post I listed the offices in which these individuals worked. Given that the complaint went twice to the Chief Exectutive's Office and, in stages, over a period of six months involved Barclays paying out a total of around £5K I would have thought someone as senior as BM claims to be could track it down.

BM also claims that Barclays regard misselling as gross misconduct. He adds that a member of staff engaging in this practice will be subject to disciplinary action or dissmissal. After my complaint went through the Chief Executive's office I was eventually paid £2500 compensation for misselling part. Despite this, six months later I found that the "Financial Advisor" was still in post!

If BM wants to send me a PM with his (or her) job title and office address I will take steps to verify that these are true. I will then WRITE (by post) to Barclays with full details.

Get them to remove the personal reserve from your account, and then change your direct debit dates. You should then either have the money there for your direct debits, or we will bounce them, and you will be charged no fee.

If you feel that we haven't helped you enough with canceling your direct debits or claiming under the direct debit guarantee, please call 0800 282 390, which is the direct number for the complaints department.

I cannot belive its taken me saying this on a forum to get any reasonable advice! Thanks

Barclays remains the only high street bank that trains their staff to be able to advise on insurance and other regulated products.

Errrm.. so not true!!!!! I believe in a lot of your views but please, remain with facts.

In my organisation also, there are strong, robust training procedures with general insurance in line with FSA compliance...

    Please do not generalise

By "advise" I mean that our sellers are able to tailor insurance packages to individual customers and then tell them whether or not it is advisable to take the insurance, based on a lengthy set of demands and needs questions.

As far as I am aware, we are the only bank to do this. If not, I am wrong and my apologies.

Actually, you will note that I didn't ask for any personal information. I asked for either the complaint reference - which is useless to anyone outside of Barclays and doesn't contain anything to identify you - or the names of the people you dealt with.

I haven't actually asked for any information about you, such as your name, sort code, account number, etc.

We don't use "Officer" as a title. Plus, it's a little hard to believe anything you say - but I'm giving you a means to prove yourself. If you don't, then I guess what I say really is credible.

Oh, how convenient. Despite me having asked for information that, as detailed previously, is not personal and cannot be used to identify you, you're declining to do even that.

The burden of proof lies on you. If you wish to lend any sort of credence to your claim, the very least you could do would be to send me a PM with just the names of who you dealt with. There's nothing even remotely personal about that.

Come on, put your money where your mouth is. ;)

Yes you do use the term "Officer" (as in Senior Customer Relations Officer) - or at least you did in July 07 I have the letters in front of me at this very moment!!!!

The fact that you do not know this and keep asserting that black is white, when I have the proof before my eyes, suggests to me that you are not who you claim to be.

No, the burden of proof doen not lie with me. I know that the details of the complaint I outlined in my other post are correct and that I have the letters and compensation payments to prove it.

Prove to me that you are indeed senior in Barclays and I will write to a Barclays office with the details.

These claims are yours. You are alleging all of the above, it is your duty to prove it. It is not mine to disprove it.

You don't need to write to a Barclays office with details. If what you said is true, we already have them. So, stump up a complaint reference in a PM, or a name of who you dealt with. You have absolutely no reason not to do this.

So far, you have made the claims in dispute, and you are doing nothing to prove them whatsoever.

Quite weak on your part, really.

Yes I do as it is the only way I can be certain that the information is going ONLY to a senior person in Barclays. You could be anybody from the most junior cashier to board level, if indeed you work for Barclays at all.

Or, perhaps I should print out parts of this thread and send it to the Customer Relations Manager (not Officer this one!) in the Executive Support Team at Churchill Place who originally responded on Varley's behalf.

Be honest, the reason you won't identify yourself is that you don't want your bosses finding out that you have publicly called a customer a liar for printing an accurate account of a serious complaint.
