I have a Fujitsu Lifebook 675Tx which had the same problem. The backlight was not "damaged" however. A power surge or similar had simply blown a protection capacitor (which acts as a fuse?) internally, cutting off power to the backlight (to AVOID damage). My neighbour opened up my laptop and bypassed the capacitor. Now it works just fine. I hope this info is useful to you!

My laptop sat under my bed for over 2 years because I thought the screen was dead.. if only I knew then what I know now!
I hear the cry of the silence around me.

The screen has just come back on by itself!! I was working from the external monitor and the next thing I heard a click on my laptop and the screen display was back. Not sure what the problem is/was and whether this will be short lived or not.

...and now it's gone faint again. Does it sound like a loose wire?

Mmm Is there a wheel that turns the Brightness up or down
    as these can sometimes malfunction....

No wheel - brightness is controled by FN + right arrow key. Tried increasing brightness but no change.

It may well indeed be a faulty ribbon cable.... Yeah mines Fn + F6 or F7
  • Oh dear oh dear oh dear, what model is it and how old is it please ?
I brought the daughter a V2040 on Sunday for Crimbo. I didn't want to open it to test it out 'cos if the box has been opened I'll be accused of buying her second hand kit.

Is there an EASY way of checking this?

Do you mean for a ribbon cable.. if so the only way is to take apart
but i would consider getting a written quote from a PC engineer first
or get some kind of shop to check it out..

Mind you it could be something else... So....
