you can joint it into smaller joints.

you can cut these into smaller pieces and use them in soups or as bacon bits to flavour pasta and crisp fried to flavour salads.
:o Keep trying.........................what else is there to do? :o

    Hiya,

I cooked a 2kg gammon on Sunday using the coke recipe. I cooked in the coke for 2 hours and then roasted it for 20 covered in dark sugar.

Several meals later (and some given to a needy friend) there's still a load left.

Any ideas for using it up? I was thinking egg fried rice? Sandwiches? We're getting bored of gammon and salad LOL!!!

    Much love,

Try pasta with cream cheese stirred in (with or without herbs and garlic) and some gammon chopped in.. very nice meal and quick!

I make what we call cowboy beans - just an onion, chopped and browned in a frying pan, chuck in a can of beans, some chopped leftover gammon, a squirt of bbq sauce and have with baked potatoes.

I have a gammon joint which I bought just after Christmas in Tesco, and haven't quite gotten round to cooking it yet - I have never done this before so a bit scared of messing it up! Anyway, I have taken it out of the freezer tonight and it's now defrosted. I take it that it will still be ok to eat?

My main question is, as it's unsmoked, do I need to soak it or should it be ok as it is? It doesn't say anything on the instructions about soaking it.

    Thanks!
  • Why BOIL gammon in the slow cooker??? Whatever the joint I only add a quarter cup of stock. Adding excess stock only dilutes the juices from the meat for when you make gravy & dilutes flavour of the meat. All joints EXCEPT gammon I sear first in the pan with a drop of olive oil. With a gammon joint I soak it for 3 hours then score the skin. I rub in wholegrain mustard, then honey all over, plug a few cloves in, Bob's your uncle. In the slow cooker for around 7-8 hours on low. Remember, with any joint, to ensure airtight seal, place a sheet of foil over the top of the cooker before putting on the lid (NOT around the joint itself). This ensures all flavours & juices are kept in.
  • Does anyone have the Dutch recipe please? I lost it, although I know its on here somewhere...it involves spuds and peas with the ham?? Many Many thanks....

I have bought a little joint of gammon for dinner this evening, I don't cook it often and I usully boil it in water. I was just wondering if there was anything more exciting I could have a go at?

Not really keen on the coke thing as it seems too unhealthy for my son who will be eating it too.
