thank you for your good advice, i think at the moment both me & the wife have sent are cvs off to nearly all online job sites god can send ,however most of them ,like jobsearch etc do have jobs ,but not within my reach area of travel to work,or sometimes nothing that in are catergory. so most of them we hardly bother with much, going in my adress book i have the following

CAREERS IN LOGISTICS never anything there for me
CHECK FOR JOBS apears to be more of a search engine with links to other sites rather a jobs channel in its own right
CHESHIRE JOBS is useful in both area of work but recently has run dry for me
FISH 4 JOBS again is useful in both areas but again has run dry
FRIENDS REUNITED JOBS don't paear to have anything for us
JOBCENTRE PLUS obvously is are key site
JOBSBOARD appears to be just a search engine or somthing
JOBSTODAY is ok there is some there but very accassionally
JUMP TO JOBS again is ok but again as above
REED this is also ok but at the moment as above
TOTAL JOBS is ok too when theres work there
MONSTER not on my system but had it in the past & failed to deliver in my view
WORKTRAIN is ok ,but feel is more of a copy right of jobcentre plus

if anyone feels there are other sites that might deliver, then please bring it on
I registered with Monster, quite funny really as first week I had 4 calls from interested recruiters(all agencies) and second week a further 2 calls. Since that time 3 months later I have had no further enquiries from any recruiters or agencies. Has anyone else had a similar experience registering with Monster.

With job agencies with branches, as I have mentioned in various posts about agencies, they vary, depending on the staff there. I have lived and worked in 2 major cities (110 miles apart) and I found some agencies brilliant in one city and the same agencies are rubbish in the other. I have done temping for Adecco. The Leeds one was very sympathetic to us when I and about 18-22 others were made 'redundant' and put all of us on temping roles. The Leicester one, lost my P45, never actioned my P46 , so got emergency tax and weren't very helpful when I was told to leave. Basically I was doing maternity cover and the person who I was covering initally wanted a year off. She phoned up on one Friday saying - I am going back to work on Monday.

The thing was in the latter assignment, there were other temping roles available and I never got a look in.

Also I had some e-mail alerts which were useless - gave me a list of jobs where 1. The call centre in Leicester isn't recruiting, but another site is and 2. Gave me jobs past the closing date!

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me. Are you looking for Clerical work like me?

Me too! However, I am now in a long term temp (possibly going perm) role so I'm not that bothered about it but yes, I had loads of calls from agencies but mainly for jobs that were not suitable, during the first couple of weeks. Since then, complete silence!

Yes I am looking for clerical work, do you think they have given up on us and are only looking through cv's of newer candidates ?

I was made redundant on 30th September, but we were advised of this in february and I started to look at beginning of August since they confirmed the actual date to us at that time. I looked at the local papers, S1jobs.com and jobcentreplus were the best for me as I was looking at part-time jobs. I also went onto local council websites, nhs websites, fire bridage, police and other major companies and search for current job sites. I also did a drive about in my area to collect different companies and their address and wrote prospective letters with my CV requesting them to contact me if they had any part-time jobs available. I did not pay for the stamps as my previous company did this but sometimes it does work out. You are taking a gamble that they need someone and not have to advertise but the salary might not be good, In the end, I have a verbal job offer from a school which I completed an application form from the local council website, Hoepfully will be starting soon when my paperwork comes through. Good luck and plod on.

I really hope not. I "renew" my CV on Monster on a daily basis to ensure that it appears up-to date to potential employers.

    Hi Skintchick (again!)

For jobs in your field you would be better off looking at specialist recruitment sites – have you tried either of the sites below?

    http://www.creativepool.co.uk/
    http://www.mad.co.uk/Main/Jobs/Default.html

The search functions occasionally bring up completely unrelated jobs (!) but as both of the sites are portals rather than agencies, you get to search jobs from most of the top agencies/recruiters in your field. If you can turn your hand to copy-writing (which being a journalist/editor, shouldn't be too hard!), you may open up the possibilities a bit!

    Hope that helps!
