Vodaphone Returns

Hey all,
SIgned up to a contract phone in a vodaphone shop today, but the phone is useless and I can hardly get a signal. The guy in the shop says vodaphone operate a returns policy. Is this true and has anyone had any experience of returning things? I'm not in the mood for a battle tommorow.
