My parents are on a 10 year fix for about 4.5%

Got a feeling their mortgage is about to feel more expensive.

Possibly so - but over 10 years, I reckon it'll work out pretty good value.

0.04% above BoE base rate for another 11 Months and then 0.49 above BoE base rate for term. No set up fee. no redemption fee. Took it out in October 2007 with Co-operative.

I took the same one. Not sure it was around for long. Always had fixed in the past. So glad.

Need to look into whether it has a floor/collar. I do remember some of the one I was looking at it, not sure about this one with co-op. Didn't consider it a factor at the time, but with rates just gone to 2% it suddenly is!

We have a Woolwich mortgage Openplan.
Currently 3.49%. No penalty to overpay, no early redemptin penalties etc

'Phoned today...as it is part of Barclays now and got a recorded message saying that Barclays would follow the bank rate, no caps...so guessing we are on 2.49% from Jan 09?

    I wait for the letter.

A real help for us at this time but a stable, 'normal' economy would profit us a lot more.

I want to know how long before the high inflation/high interest rates kick in.

If 2 years, I may be in a 'safer, financial' place then
