broadband for 6 months?

Hi Guys,

Here's our conundrum: We've recently moved into a flat and have a tenancy agreement for 6 months. I called BT to see how much it would cost to connect the phone line (we have a white bt box) who said that as there had been no connection there for a long time it would be £125, and we'd be tied into paying line rental at £11/month for 12 months. There is also no cable in our area.

What's the cheapest way for us to get the internet? There's two of us and ideally we'd like to be able to go online at the same time, and also be able to download large files. It looks to me like we might have to go down the 3G/mobile broadband route and accept we won't be online both at once or making any large downloads. Have we missed anything though? Does anyone know of any other options available to us?

Cheers

3g is an option. use windows internet connection sharing and you can both be online through the same connection, large downloads...er...maybe not :(

You are right, unless you have a phone line mobile broadband is about your only option.
Be very careful when considering your plans though as many providors give a low download limit even on an 'unlimited' plan. It's usually about 3gb a month. You would have to go with a plan that allows you to buy extra usage if you want to download very large files.
Your mobile provider may be able to give you a deal if you are already in a contract.
I'm on t-mobile and they recently offered me mobile broadband for an extra £10 a month which i thought was very good.
