I use superantispyware its better than malwarebytes but it ain't free
  • Malwarebytes does not provide resident protection in the free version,

but is usefull as an alternative to ad-aware.

Sorry for starting the new thread, I did do a search first.

But I was asking for recommendations that were particularly ‘Lite’, and not such a drain.
As this is a fairly new netbook, with limited resources ( unlike my quad core) I wanted to know if there were ones that should be avoided as I didn’t want to crash her shiny new laptop or slow it down to snails pace.

A lightweight resident anti spyware, firewall and anti virus should be enough for her useage.

I had two bad viruses a few months back. MWB and Trend IS didnt remove it. MWB did detect it though SAP removed it within minutes and had to reboot

MWB wont work properly in Vista 64 not the program that runs in taskbar its a known issue. I didnt have Vista when I had the 2 viruses above
  • Superantispyware ..again no real time protection ,no auto updates ,no scheduling in the free version.
Always follow the path of least resistance.

It's probably best just to run a light anti-virus and firewall, then just run periodically a anti-malware/spyware scanner to check for any issues, rather than having a resident one (unless you visit a lot of suspect sites!).

I don't run any resident anti-spyware, just do the odd scan, but never find anything.

SpywareBlaster is a good inoculation system, which takes no resources once updated, and run, protecting against many suspect sites and sites.

Other than that SpyBot S+D, MalwareBytes, AdAware etc are all good anti-spyware scanners.
