if you do get 1 buy 1 that runs off the mains, theres other ones which draw the power from the console which doesnt help and cause the console to overheat

    And invalidate the warranty.

There's no real need for any additional cooling as long as you're sensible and keep the vents around the console clear

Yeah, what he said...These coolers just seem a bit of a waste of money...just people trying to cash in on the RROD methinks.

That's only really an issue with the early editions. If it's a new Xbox, I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, Microsoft offer an extended warranty to anyone who has RROD.

These bolt on coolers tend to do more harm than good and may actually restrict the air flow into and out of the system. The Xbox is designed in such a way that if air is allowed to properly cirulate around it, there should never be a need for extra cooling. I'd also recommend having it laid down rather than stood upright as in my experience this allows for slightly better air flow.

Good advice. Also, NEVER move the console when it's on...

i have heard stories about these things accelerating the inevitable "red ring of death " . if ain't broke don't fix it.

when ( not if ) you do get a red ring of death , Microsoft will mend it for free if you push them .

my 1st one lasted 2 years , 6 months on with replacement and all is well. when you send your broken Xbox 360 to Germany for repair , all they do is put it on the mend pile and give you a new one of the repaired pile. last figure i heard was the red ring of death had cost microsoft in excess of $1 billion in free repairs
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • Hi
My son has the xbox elite brought last year 17th sempt 07 so just out of warranty when he got the 3 red rings he looks after it like you would not believe but is on it most night all night , so has just sent it back to MS for repair free of charge , but if it had 1/2/4 red rings there would be a charge so he is now waiting for its return .
