How to clean pyrex???

  • Bicarbonate of soda, mixed in to a thick paste and used as an abrasive works really well.

Bio washing powder probably works best as it contains enzymes to break down the stains but just like in the washer, only use hand hot water (40 degrees C) as any hotter will stop the enzymes working.

soak in a bowl of bio detergent, and leave the bowl in the bath overnight .Guaranteed to shift almost anything.
I have a pyrex bowl that I bought when I first got married in 1962, 46 years ago, and it looks almost as good as then, it cost me £1.2s.6d and I wish I had a pound for every Sheppards pie/casserole that I have cooked in it over the years I would be a very rich old Granny by now

I'm a convert to using washing powder on my pyrex dishes, casserole dishes and my pans (used for custard, porridge etc). Just soak them in some hot water and a sprinking of washing powder. I just do it in my normal kitchen washing bowl.

My lasagne dish came up a treat last night and it was double baked too.

I have a Pyrex dish that needs some serious elbow grease - I can't soak it in my sink as the dish is oval and the sink round ... knew there would be tips from the Old Stylers thanks! :T

Sorry, I've come into this discussion a bit late...

Do you think the washing powder trick would work on non-stick baking trays? I've got one that I just can't get clean, and if I scrub it any harder all the non-stickness will come off (sadly my attempts so far have already scratched it quite badly!).

If you have already scratched it you might have to buy new. I had some success with virtually neat stardrops (perhaps half/ half with water) on a non-stick, I was gobsmacked when the food seemed to just lift away.

Thanks, Fire Fox. I'll get a new one and try stardrops to stop the same thing happening to the new one!

Try Barkeepers Friend. It will make the job easy. Most of it will come off on a J cloth. You can make it into a paste and leave it on and it'll be much more effective than Stardrops.
