Quick question, I have two kids, and am thinking of booking somewhere abroad, possibly... for summer 09. Kids will be aged 2(nearly 3), and 11 months old. What sort of room will I end up in if booking a hotel?
Just weighing up my options- Caravan in France or UK, or hotel room in Spain?
Hi,
we usually go on caravan holidays either to france or italy, try vacansoleil.co.uk, venue or canvas for some of the best prices, we have done hotels with the kids but they have loads more freedom with the caravan. The drive is a pain, but if you take loads of things for the to do - dvd player etc they should be fine, my kids were 6 weeks old or so when we started and are now 7 & 9 and we find that they haven the benefit of taking their bikes and other fave toys.
Theres some great deals at the moment too for Spring bank in may 09 - canvas have a week in a caravan for £235 in France until 2.12.08 various sites to choose from....
Hope that helps,

Brittany or Vendee is lovely - not too far to drive depending how long you are going for....you might find you dont need much more stuff than you took for your 4 day trip!! We are booking Camping L'Atlantique for our May break, have been to Camping Kervilor with Venue and that was lovely - a small site but with most things you need, but we usually drive to Italy so dont know many others
Also if you look at vacansoleil as you dont have to worry about having summer holidays for school they do 7 nights for the price of 6 and 14 nights for the price of 10 until beginning of July on many sites

In which case camping in France might be expensive. If you could get cheap flights to Costa Blanca - Alicante or Murcia - you could probably get a reasonable 2 bedroomed apartment for a fair price, look at www.holiday-rentals.co.uk and car hire is reasonable too.0

we have two girls aged 3 and 4 and we've chosen the caravan option a few times. there's much more room in a nice static caravan than in a hotel and it might just be luck but the caravans we've had have been very new and nice looking and full of home comforts.
i expect you'll want a bed guard for the little one though.
we usually go from dover with www.speedferries.com as they have the best prices and the crossing only take 50 minutes too.0 -
Thanks, I'm favouring the caravanning type, don't think I can face flying with the two. Am thinking 2 hrs before check in, 2.5 hr flight, 1hr in airport, 1hr transfer= 6.5 hours before a delay is probably incurred to the flight. In 6.5 hours I could probably drive a fair amount of the journey.
Won't be using speedferries tho (thanks anyway)- have you seen their website- all is not well!!!!
Have looked at some prices of these camping trips, and whilst I haven't booked a holiday for a while, they do look quite steep!0 -
if you are looking at hotels, see if they do early dinners (teas whatever you want to call them, for kids). kEEPING A KID UP TO BE FED AT 7PM etc IS NOT ALWAYS FUN. oops sorry caps.0

Hi since our 2 girls were young we've tried both - the horrific drive to France and the hell that is the flight! On balance though, we prefer the flight option, last couple of years have been to a small tourist town on the Costa Calida called Mazarron flying into Murcia. The flights are about £400 (already booked for next year) and the appartment is £175 a week for a 2 bed with pool. We hire a car but you dont have to, theres a chap who does transfers.
We go first 2 weeks of the summer holidays, and absolutely love it.Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!0 -
