Pigs Trotters

Options
Ok everyone as some of you know I live in France and I stumbled across a load of pig trotters, (they were on cheap). So me being me saw the bargain before I thought....

How do I cook these????? Yes mad I know, but I can't help it.....

Any suggestions would be good, I have a pressure cooker and a remoska, slow cooker and an ordinary oven/hob, so surely there must be an easy way of doing these beasts and it'll be another thing to offer my children. Well they eat most French foods so they may as well try these.

You know your getting old when you
go to the pub sit outside
and admire the hanging basket
    Is officially 48% tight :D
  • I think you have to clean em up well (pour boiling water over them??) and then poach gently for a couple of gours on the hob.

Never eaten them (and I have had most offal/cheap meat esp as a kid- do HATE tripe!!) but suprised and old gent who was boiling a trotter for his dinner by being able to identify the part of the beast when he lifted the lid and said "well I don't expect you've evr seen one of these!)
  • It'll be my first time, I've never had offal nor tripe, so now I'm wondering about those lol.... should I or shouldn't I????

Living in France is great but they never leave pork with the crackling on in the supermarkets, this comes separate and it's so so so cheap it's unreal.... if I've done a roast I usually purchase this so I can make pork crackling.. or pork scratchings on special occassions... I know it's bad for you but it's so so good.....

  • this one looks fairly simple... and doesn't seem too distasteful if thats the word I'm looking for. Thanks for that x

    Hi angelkissingdevil,

I have never cooked these but have memories of my mum making them for my dad. She used to simmer them in a pan with some veg (onion, carrots and celery ).

If you have a look on google there are lots of links to recipes that might help.

One of the contestants on Come Dine with me made these a few weeks ago. It was the ones set in Ayr - What a laugh , they did not look particularly great but think he paid 60p for all 5 of them and they were huge!! He just boiled them in a pot with veg - need less to say none of the contestants ate them but there was still hair and nails attached when they were on their plates.....
No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:
