It IS standard practice for factories to produce virtually identical goods but they may carry the names of several brands. a store can stock items which are exclusive to them which are branded with a 'famous' name - but these items are usually not made to the same standards and not usually by the company which normally produces the branded goods - although in some cases they do. confused? just another tangle in our convoluted trades description act. Argos and other companies arent breaking the law - which to my mind means the law needs to be changed. Dont firms like Delonghi realise they are tarnishing their reputations by allowing inferior goods to go on sale with their name on? bet you will never buy another delonghi appliance. write and tell them so - perhaps they will rethink this practice if enough people complain!

Yeah but scrap that then you'd have to scrap franchising as well.

its also handy for shops that do price matches as they get a model specific to them so nobody can try and get a price match
eg Currys etc offer local price matches but often the items have a model number specific to them

I can reel off a huge list of our own brand stuff which has a licensed name on it!

To me, I now know and don't think twice about considering, for example, a Kenwood microwave as an own-brand one, but I can see it's a little unfair on those who don't.
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

I think it's more not know. In the post that was quoted the poster seemed to be demanding a replacement and nothing else. The company can repair it if they see fit.

I know what you mean esqui - little do the customers know that sometimes own brand means top brand! and clever staff work it out by knowing exactly where the stock comes from!
