Argos and DeLonghi Microwave

I have a problem with a DeLonghi Microwave Oven. The problem itself is of less concern that what I discovered when trying to sort it out.
To cut a long story short I have been in touch with Argos where I bought it who directed me to DeLonghi whose name and logo it bears.
What I was told I found disturbing. DeLonghi told me that the microwave oven in question was actually manufactured by Argos which was able to use the DeLonghi name under a business agreement.
My point is that I bought the microwave because I have other DeLonghi products and have always been very satisfied with them. I bought the microwave because I believed it was manufactured by DeLonghi.
I feel that I have been misled. If the microwave had clearly stated that it was manufactured by Argos I would probably not have bought it.
I said to DeLonghi on the phone that I felt this was misrepresentation and was told it was a normal business practice.
If I bought a sweater with a Jaeger label and found it was manufactured by Primark I would be displeased. Isn't this the same thing?
What do you think?

You don't have a leg to stand on I'm afraid. For example I have been told that M&S and Primark use the same suppliers but both shops put their brand on the goods they sell. Also lots of electrical goods i.e. TVs by different brands are made in the same factories.
I had and have a DeLongi Microwave too.
About 6 months ago my original microwave gave up after 13 months. So I contacted Argos in writing by recorded delivery and asked them to give me permission to return the microwave to the store and get a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act. Only when I sent them a second letter threatening to take them to court did I get a response asking me to take it back to the store and get a replacement. When I got in the store the manager said some rubbish about the item being out of Argos guarantee he didn't seem aware of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and amendments.
So I suggest if your Microwave is faulty and it's less than 3 years old* write to Argos using recorded delivery mentioning the Sale of Goods Act and demand a replacement or you will be taking them to court.
*I know microwaves last longer but even with a 2 year old microwave it's not worth the hassle of going to court.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Thanks for that. !I had the original microwave replaced because of the same fault just before the 12 months - this one - the replacement - has failed in the same way after 12 months and three days. !I will follow your suggestions.
However, my original point - that the microwave is sold AS DeLonghi but is made by Argos is not quite the same as M & S and Primark made in the same place. !Unless, of course, M & S are selling goods made BY Primark?0 -
How many 'DeLonghi' products are actually made by DeLonghi?
If they license the name to Argos they probably license it to other manufacturers.0 -

The person I spoke to at DeLonghi today implied that only that particular microwave was manufactured by Argos. !But - how can we know?
If products carrying a well-known name are actually NOT their products then I think there should be some indication of that at the point of sale and in the packaging.0 -
As an extension of that - most manufacturers seem to be proud of their names and seek to protect them. !We, the public, often buy because we believe a particular manufacturer is known to produce quality goods. !If we cannot believe that products carrying their names are actually designed and manufactured by them then the whole thing is a charade.
Perhaps there is one big manufacturing complex which randomly labels goods with whatever known name comes to mind (that IS meant to be understood with a tone of irony).0 -
Just wondering which model it is. I have had a Delonghi AC930AMQ replaced twice already now, both times, the bulb went first, then eventually the magnetron. First one lasted 5 months. The second, just 3. This third one has lasted longer, in the region of 16 months but has inevitably gone the same way.
Pee'd off really, it's a stylish looking oven, large capacity, combi too just not reliable in the slightest. It was also a bargain from Argos at the time as it was on offer for half price.
Surely even though it's out of its 12 months warranty there's some recourse? It's only had the normal household use you would expect, not commercial or business use. It should be lasting several years, not months!
Think an email to Argos might be in order...0 -
This is far more common than you might think. Go have a look at your DVD player. Bet it's not made by the company whose name appears on it.0

that sort of set up isnt unusual ,loads of companies do the same
for example in Argos the warfdale stuff is produced under licence0
