    • Buy a set of cheap glasses that fit the recipients favourite drink, ie wine glasses for wine drinkers, brandy glasses for brandy drinkers, tumblers for non drinkers. Alternatively, you can use tealight holders. Either can be picked up for about £1 in most supermarkets or pound shops. I recently bought 4 wine glasses for 88p at Sainsbury's. :money:
    • Buy a glass painting kit or a couple of bottles of glass paint from ebay, Amazon, The Works or a pound shop for about £3-4. Craft stores tend to be expensive, but you might be lucky in the sale. You will need an outliner to do pictures or the paint will run, although this is an alternative effect to pictures. NB Some kits come with tea light holders ready to paint.
    • Paint on something personal to the recipient. I chose elements of the stained glass window in my sister's front door, but equally you can use their favourite animal, shape, colour etc. Christmas (or birthday) themed glasses are an alternative. The website glasspainting.co.uk has some good tips. It's a idea to print out pictures and trace them with the outliner if you are no good freehand.
    • You can also buy laquer, which colours a glass in a drip effect and can often be made dishwasher proof. If one were to purchase similarly coloured glasses, it would cost a fortune.
    • Glass paints can sometimes work out quite expensive, but even if the kit brings you over budget, you can use it many more times and make several gifts out of this.
    • Bear in mind that glass paint takes a long time (up to 24 hours) to dry and you generally have to each colour separately. Certainly the outliner needs to be done and left to dry before adding the colour.
Hope this is of some use! :D

Total Cost? c. £5 for many, so probably c. 50p per child

Buy a peelable glass painting kit from ebay for about £4.50 including postage
Google image their favourite cartoon characters and print out, or use one of their own books or magazines. For (slightly!) older children, you can use favourite animals, cars, etc.
Overlay the clear plastic included in the pack, trace the outline of the character with the black outliner. Leave to dry.
Colour in the sections as close to the picture as possible, but don't worry too much, they are unlikely to notice any difference!
    Leave to dry
Please off when ready and wrap each one in tissue. Be careful with small bits that stick out, like ears, hair etc.

These can be stuck on virtually any shiny surface, so windows, the fridge, mirrors etc. I made these for a friends three year old twins and they loved them, but as they keep moving them, there are finger prints all over the windows, so be warned!

  • Buy gloves from Primark (2 pairs for a pound). Use left over yarn scraps threaded through a tapestry type needle to sew holly leaves and berries, stars, bells etc around the cuffs and up towards the fingers. You need to stretch the gloves over a large glass jar first (I use an empty mayonaisse jar) so that the gloves will still be elasticated after your needlework.
