A present for some one who won't downshift groceries. Spend upto £5 on downshift groceries that they would normally buy. Get a free cardboard box from the supermarket a size that you could put your down shift items in & wrap in festive paper. Most supermarkets have got some good offers on, don't forget to add some festive items, Mince pies, x-mas pud. You'll find that they'll use the tins & packets you've brought and I bet they won't notice the change too much. I did this two years ago for my mother-in-law and she hasn't looked back since.

Name of present? Hand-made button earrings
Do you make it or buy it? Make It
Total Cost? £1.60
Details (the more the better) I got this idea when I bought a pair of button earings from Camden market earlier this year...for £10! So yesterday I bought 2 round silver buttons (with a cute heart design) from John Lewis (65p each) and made them into a pair of funky earings by super gluing earing posts onto the back. You can't even tell these started their life as buttons, but even if you choose bog-standard bright coloured buttons this adds to their uniqueness.0 -
1. Poundland calendar where you put your own digital photos you print yourself in £1, includes the photo paper so just ink on top of that, with ink costing me less than £3 each. You do have to make it yourself but I find it better to have the time to choose your own photos at home.
2. Buying a card and putting the £5 in it with a note to my friends who are new parents saying 'get the first drink on me and I will babysit so you can have a night out together' which I am certain will be appreciated. Cost £5 and a few hours of my time. Doesn't take much making, you could print a fancy voucher or something but not necessary.
3. Photo bauble bought last year for a relative, she was saying how she wished her Mam was there who recently passed away, so we did her a photo bauble of her Mam to hang on the tree, now her Mam is with them every Christmas. £3.99 for bauble and a few pence to copy a photo.
4. Cheques offering to do something that matters, from housework to baby sitting, a few hours off for a busy Mum so she can goto the sales without junior dragging on her leg can sometimes be a great gift.
Always been someone who prefers to put thought in rather than cash. Not saying I am tight, spent several hundred on a laptop for someone last year and a few hundred on some spa days, but what mattered was why I got them. One day I might be more organised...........

Put a £5 note in the bottle and put the lid back on
Write on the bottle with a marker pen or print out on computer a piece of paper that say
"Emergency credit crunch £5 Cash Tree - only open in an emergency
If you keep this intact for a year another £5 will be added (note: from you as a present for next year) , if you use it before then that is fine as long as it is in an Emergency only- Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer
