BT Line activation

Options
Hi,
I've bought a property a few days ago and Im looking for best possible broadband deal. BT Line is connected to that property but is not activated.
When I rang them they told me I need to orger 12months landline from them (BT) to get that line activated...

I really dont need the landline... Their internet options are very expensive and limited (unlimited for 24 + 11 landline)... I would like to go with Tiscali (6-9 pounds/month) but I cant if I dont have my line activated.

Is it possible to activate it and get the phone number without 12months contract with bt ?

So...
a) BT line is connected but its not active. (new property)
b) I dont want the landline contract
c) I need unlimited internet connection
d) Im not in WIFI hot spot area

(sorry for spelling/gramma mistakes - English is not my first language)

You say the line is connected. Is there any dialling tone on the line? Dial 17070 and see if you get a response.

If so, you can use the post office to restart the line - no charge and no minimum contract.

Alternatively, if the line needs reinstalling, think again about BT as they have a £30 offer for installations (18 month contract) which is around £85 cheaper than anyone else charges for the same job.

they said (BT) the line is ready to turn on and is no charge for it but I need to sign 12months contract with them.

I dont have a phone to dial.

Plug any handset in - borrow one off a friend - you need to know the number to get another company to switch it on, and if it's connected, dialling 17070 will tell you the number.

Ive just asked the Post Office to reactivate the line in my sons new flat. We didn't know the number (or the advice you gave above) but they are able to organise reactivation at the address without knowing the number....? However, it is not happening until the 18th, so now I cant wait to go round there with a spare phone and try it out!:D
