Im sure NDG will be able to add to this, as she currently works in the field.
I personally think this is a national disgrace. The things some of these people have experienced & seen - gave ME nightmares and I was only hearing it 2nd hand . I have seen the physical scars. I have heard the recollections and i have cried with them as they tell thier story of thier villages being firebombed and thier babies raped. but as long as no one gets in front of "us" in the queue eh!
I have had one client (thankfully, only one, so far, as far as I know) for whom we tried everything, and failed. He was sent back. And shot soon thereafter, in public, by men who didn't seem to fear a murder charge. One of his sons was shot dead, as was a brother. His 10 year old son was shot a week after his father's death, and survived with serious injuries....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
There is absolutely no way I would begrudge my tax pennies being spent on housing for some of the women I have met, and their families. If that means some of the undeserving get a bit too, so be it.
I suspect pickled doesn't get information from anywhere other than the daily wail. She may not be aware that this information is mostly made up.0 -

I have lived on two council estates and I can say right now, hand on heart, that we have never had an estate of those unfortunate enough to be coming to this country after fear for their lives in their own.
They have both been 100% non asylum seeker/immigrants, not that I would have minded if these unfortunate people had been housed with us.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Asylum-seekers get NASS support, including housing, if they are broke. NASS isn't normal council housing, and is much worse - shared rooms for adults, moved around all the time (at a few days' notice) etc.
changes from asylum seeker to refugee they are given 28 days to leave their
NASS accommodation and to move from NASS voucher support to the
relevant UK benefit. Once this happens they are classed as homeless and are top of list for all houses to let.(well for houses advertised with priority given to band)0 -
The government has always been rubbish at providing housing, just look at the scandal developing at Lambeth council to see why we should not give councils one penny to build more:

The answer lies with more affordable homes to buy and rent privately, not more ghetto estates.Been away for a while.0 -

If the government made planning permission a lot easier to get then land wouldn't effing cost so much.
Then people could fund and build their own homes.
I see a 0.5 acre lot going for 100K... !!!!ing madness.Savings

NASS provides housing, in the form of bed and breakfast, hostels or community housing. its paid for by central government via NASS, its not council housing, its private housing
In coventry NASS rented 2 huge blocks of flats from the council which removed 100's houses from the councils stock.
NASS contacted all the local landlords offerring 25% more than market value if they rented to them. All goods in NASS house has to be new or have 12 month warranty.
Even if they were all living in b+b , hostels etc then surely thats stopping local people from getting them?0
