I am looking to buy a new digital camera soon and want a good one! I take quite a few photos in the dark, ie concerts etc and my current one isnt up to the job. Do you have any suggestions pls?

I have a Fuji S9600, takes great shots without flash. Great for concerts as the flash on camera's are no good due to the distance to stage involved.
All Fuji camera's are great in low light conditions, so if it is a compact you are after instead look no further than a Fuji.

what's your budget localboy?0

I would recommend a Canon, and if you are after a compact, a Canon Ixus. There is plenty around to cover all budgets, and I have found these have the best bang for your buck in terms of all round features, picture quality etc0

Fuji for shooting in low light.0

You may want to look for a camera that has more manual controls (like aperture and shutter priority modes). Also, on board image stabalisation is a must.
If you've got the budget, a Panasonic LX3 would be a great introduction to more 'proper' photography. Big sensor, very wide good quality lens.
Con: it's a bit expensive.. so what's your budget?0 -
Got to be the Nikon D3 or if money is tight the D700!!

Hi.
I have a Panasonic FZ18. Really good value. 18x optical zoom puts a lot of SLRs to shame.
A small sensor but brilliant optics
I have to say its one of those few purchases I have never ever had any regret over.
One of the few times I have had better gadgets than my non-MSE non-mean non-cheap but very swanky buy-now-pay later friends.
IIRC I paid around £170 for it plus carry case, spare battery and 4Gb card from somewhere called camerabox.co.uk...... or was it £250ish?? I cant honestly remember.
Anyway, well worth it. Absolutely brilliant camera and piles cheaper than an SLR, and smaller and lighter too. Only complaint is that very bright colours (ie sun glinting on a dew-laden leaf) get burned to just white. Function of the small sensor I guess.
Cant recommend enough.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

BF109 - ever tried dropping the f-stop down to stop the over exposure? If you can, shoot in raw also0

If you will use it for professional photography you should buy Nikon but if you will only use it occasionally you can choose Canon. Not that expensive but it gives you a high quality picture! :j0

Thanks everyone for all your replies!!
I am after a compact camera, dont need it for professional photography, I just want better quality pictures in low light at distance. My budget is fairly open, probably up to £150.0
