Yep, and outside their Lombard Street HQ (I think it was there) they had a massive gold coloured grasshopper suspended over the street.

I dont know about Martin's logo but the branch of LTSB (ex Lloyds) in Bury St Edmunds still has the old beehive logo on it's sign. That's going back a bit as well.

I miss the old Williams & Glyn's Bank........they used to have great adverts with the "nutty" bank manager.

I'm sure RBS nicked their Logo (the 4 pointless arrows) when they took them over.

Well, there's one good thing come out of this post - I've realised I'm not as old as I feel! Actually, I'm not sure that's a good thing or not

I don't remember Martin's Bank (thought that was a spoof on an MSE page somewhere?) or anything about beehives & grasshoppers - I remember Sprocket & Sylvester though.

I did an FSA search myself - Halifax Building Society and Yorkshire Penny Bank were nowhere to be seen either :eek:

I remember The Leeds Permanent (now HBOS group) and their ads featuring Arthur Daley from "Minder". Also National & Provincial (now Santander/Abbey) - all I can remember of them is they had a big bee in their logo :rotfl:

I too remember them, and also two of their predecessors Glyn, Mills & Co. and Williams Deacon's Bank.

I remember them all, but only because my grandmother told me about them, unlike you old people. Even the grasshopper only looked massive because I was a tiny, tiny baby.

It was A&L, but the line was that the naiive saver went to this dodgy little bank called Sprocket & Sylvester, while those with sense went to Alliance & Leicester. I think it was a conversation like
"I'm banking with Sprocket & Sylvester - they give me xxxxxxxxxx"
"Who's Sprocket & Sylvester? My bank gives me ...(high interest/great service/great functionality...)" Must admit it doesn't sound like the A&L we all know and love does it?
