Halifax PLC... not authorised by FSA

Dear All,
I may be wrong... and I dont want to create a panic.
I went to the FSA register (http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/home.do) and when I wrote HALIFAX PLC to check whether it is on their register or not.... it says NO LONGER AUTHORISED.
However, HBOS and BANK OF SCOTLAND are authorised.... What do you think?
Does it mean that products to Halifax like Web savers, Fixed web savers etc. are not protected???
I just fixed my £30k in 3 months Fixed web saver account (6.82% gross).
Can anyone clarify this???

Thanks Baldur. The site you mentioned are run by MSE Martin.
I mentioned the official FSA site, i.e. the government site. If you put Halifax Plc there you will be amazed...:eek:0 -
Hardly, since Halifax has not been authorised in its own right for around a year - it operates under the Bank of Scotland authorisation. If you put Halifax Plc there you will be amazed...
You obviously haven't read the following on the Halifax website:Financial Services Compensation Scheme
Bank of Scotland is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Where a customer has made deposits in a savings or bank account, payments under the scheme are limited to 100% of the first £50,000, subject to a maximum payment to any one depositor of £50,000. This limit applies provided the insolvency or other default of the bank or firm concerned takes place after 7 October 2008. Please note that accounts with Bank of Scotland include accounts in its divisions and trading names, for example, Halifax, Intelligent Finance and Birmingham Midshires. Most deposits denominated in sterling and other European Economic Area currencies and euro made with offices of the bank within the European Economic Area are covered. There are different levels of protection for other investments covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Further details of the scheme are available on request.0 -

Yeah, that's right, Halifax have been operating without FSA authorisation for over a year and nobody noticed. You are clearly a genius, someone should give ou a job.

This is possibly one of the most stupid posts ever.Dear All,

Their own web site clearly states "Bank of Scotland" which in turn clearly shows up on the FSA site.
Trying to cause unnecessary panic is not a good idea.0 -
Why am I adding? Never mind: Halifax aren't called "Halifax PLC" - they are called "HBOS".
You/we don't bank with Halifax PLC, we bank with HBOS.
HBOS are FSA authorised and regulated - our/your savings are covered.
Don't panic. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
I wrote HALIFAX PLC to check whether it is on their register or not.... it says NO LONGER AUTHORISED.
What happens when you type in;
Trustee Savings Bank ??
Midland Bank ??
Martins Bank ??
Portman Building Society ??
Does the fact that they are NO LONGER AUTHORISED mean you stop Banking with LloydsTSB, HSBC, Barclays, Nationwide ??'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Sorry but the OP is massively alarmist. As explained above, HALIFAX PLC no longer exists as a sole entity, since it was merged with BOS, and is now called HBOS.In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0
