I am looking for return flights from London (Heathrow...but if its much cheaper then I don't mind Gatwick) to New York (only Newark will do here...unless again anyone can find something exceptionally cheaper to JFK).
Depart between 28-30 June (prefer 28th June)
Return between 29 Aug - 3 Sep (prefer 2nd Sep)
2 passengers...both adults...economy...and I would definately prefer direct flight (again I don't mind 1 stop if it is exceptionally cheap)!
I have found quite high prices so far (Travel Supermarket..Opodo...EBookers...all around £490 - £500 each person return), although I did search the forum and found that people had got cheaper fares on the Virgin Atlantic site, where I found £329 each person return.
Am basically looking for the cheapest fare possible...all and ANY help will be much appreciated!
Even if people could recommend websites/travel agents for me to look at or when (which month) I should look for the tickets I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

Sign up to receive emails from Airline-network and watch out for US sales. I had 3 Virgin flights to Orlando next Feb for less than £900.

Any ideas guys? I'm struggling a bit here...
Anyone with previous experience of cheap London to NY fares have any suggestions? Where and when did you book your flights?
All suggestions and ideas welcome
Thx in advance!0 -
I got a fligth LHR->JFK with Air India, and it was stupidly cheap, flying out in July, coming back August.....
cost me about £250ish.
(and I got a free upgrade to business on the way out)

Most of the major airlines now have cheaper flights on their own web sites than Opodo, ebookers etc - and you get full airmiles.
Around £500 in mid-summer is what you can expect to pay. Fares are higher this year because of fuel charges.
If you subscribe to their newsletters you will get notification of any 'sales' but I suspect you will not get it much cheaper - £450 perhaps.0 -

Your dates are in the early\high season so at this moment in time there will be little or no chance of cheap flights.
Several Travel threads have several web-sites to search for cheap fares
AirNinja is one that looks good
LowFare Flights is another
Cheapflights is good as well.
Suggestions:
Trawl the above sights to see who could be a good airline and sign up to their email alerts.
This could be a BIG list.
Likely really cheap carriers can be Air India (as mentioned B4) Icelandair and even a maybe Air Canada- but they fly to Toronto first!
Delta and Aer Lingus may be useful.
American Airlines tend to have sales about one\two months before to generate revenue (they are going bust!).
Sign up to their flying club or email alerts. I got a flight in early May for late June 2005 to LHR-Boston for £281 each
So I think you will have to wait until March\April before you can get a good deal.
Why only NewarK, it's not that far from JFK or LGA?0 -

Not quite true re airmiles thing. In fact airlines are now deciding that if you fly on the discounted tickets, regardless of where you book, you won't be getting full airmiles. For example with BA, if you fly on a discounted ticket, doesn't matter where it was booked, you will only get 25% BA miles."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

I take your point re airmiles particularly with BA. I could have phrased my point more carefully, but it is a hugely complicated subject.(almost a religion to some people) I know someone who booked a BA flight to the USA with Opodo and only got 10% of the miles.
Not all airlines give reduced airmiles. For instance AA give full miles on all their flights, even in the USA. However depending on the fare category you can get differing qualifying points - which only matter if you are trying for elite status. Also depending on your status you can get double airmiles for every trip -I do!
What I should have said is that booking with Opodo/Ebookers etc will often get you less airmiles than booking direct with the Airline as many of their seats are in the lowest fare category(booking class).0 -
Where are you from? If you are near Bristol, then they now have flights with Continental to Newark. Did it last month for £250 ish, and a huge luggage allowance. We used goldenwings.
HTH.
