I wonder if you should apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment, which is an additional amount of housing benefit that is paid to people in financial harship. You may possibly be able to get this backdated.
I don't know the severity of your illness, but wonder if you would be eligable for Disability Living Allowance?
As for the eviction, do you have a local Housing Aid Office that could give you advice, or as someone else has said, Citizens Advice.
You have 2 children, but I don't know their ages. It would not be in the children's best interest to be evicted (or yours) and I wonder if you should be getting letters of support from your GP regarding your illness and the effect this will have on your health. Their education could also be disrupted if you are all placed elsewhere etc.
Good luck0 -

The tumor isnt growing which is kinda good for the moment, I go for a scan every 3-4 weeks to see if there is any changes. I was meant to have it removed in September but I wasnt "in the right frame of mind" the doc says. He said I needed to be so to aid the recovery hmm. Anyway as far as I know I should be getting the operation in January. Hoping to find out more on Friday at next scan.
I cope with it better I think because I have so much else going on in my life so I never get a chance to think too much, which is good in one sense.
I have an appointment with CAB next Monday to sort out the financial side of things, was there yesterday afternoon seeing about the debt. Thing is there aint no debt as such, it aint due to spending or nothing. There is a £13K Tax credit overpayment, then rent arrears, and now just found out something neither myself not CAB knew.
I've been off my work almost 3 yrs now and getting Incapacity Benefit, I was also getting WTC which I didnt know I was entitled to but I sent the paperwork to Inland Revenue and this is what they said, as long as ur employed then ur entitled to it. But, what they fail to tell ppl is that its ONLY when ur on Short Term Incapacity, there is nothing written anywhere to tell u this, even when I sent in the paperwork for end of year they still gave me WTC. I didnt know I wasnt meant to have it until the girl at CAB wanted to do a benefit checker and this is where she seen it. She rang the IR and they said I will be paying it back, so another £4K is gonna be added on to the £13K. She is gonna appeal it because there is nothing at all telling ppl this and surely they shoulda seen how long I was on Incapacity when they got a copy of the Award Notice.
Anyway once again I am sorry if my post seemed like I was judging ppl, that wasnt my intention. I was just angry and I let it all out.
You have all been wonderful and today I have the biggest smile I have in a long time, so thank you all xxx0 -
Scotlady - so sorry to read about your predicament, as others have said you ARE entitled to have a rant now and again!
I hope you get things sorted, thinking of you. x0 -

Hi there Scotslady
I am sorry things are so rough just now.
Do either of your children get any support from a Young Carers Project, they are often get at accessing grants or one off payments that may help.
This of course will vary depending on what area you are in but it may be worth a try.
I hope things get easier for you soon and I hope your health and wealth improves.
Take care of yourself x0 -
Here's hoping that CAB can sort things out for you.
I wonder if the housing department would look in your favour if you arranged to make a fixed payment every week. If you are evicted, you will have to find private rented accommodation and as we all know, this will cost more in housing benefit than a local authority tenancy. What about a visit to your local Councillor/MSP?
Good luck.0 -
Things just go from bad to worse dont they.
Yesterday I get 2 letters, one from Medical Services, I was confident they would allow me back to work but they signed me off for a YEAR!!!
The other letter from local council saying they swapped my housing benefit over to Local Housing Allowance which is better, but, as my son is 18 they are deducting £47.75 per week due to him...
Then he was away out job-hunting and him and a mate were sitting outside McDonalds eating a pasta tub costing 99p. Now my son has been brought up well and usually puts his rubbish in the bin, but for some reason one of them failed to pick up this pot and walked 4 steps away when they were approached with a woman with a fine already filled out, just blank for name. But because she couldnt see who left the pot they were BOTH slapped with a fine of £75 each for this. Both offered to pick the tub up but nope. So £150 for 99p pot. It irates me when few months ago my son was assualted causing a fractured cheekbone, the guy got £100 fine....
Then this morning I log in to check my CTC went in and nope, nothing. I am meant to get £46pw for me & kids. Ok I get Incapacity every 2 wks but I get deductions from that too.
Phoned Tax credit ppl and they said it was the other overpayment and they decided it was best to take it all in one lump sum so now I dont get any CTC until April 2009. What happened was I was signed off work in Feb 2006 for 6 wks and they still wont let me return to work, I went from Short-term to long-term incapacity, now I like prob a lot of ppl would assume that if ur sending in all the up-to-date info to Inland Revenue that everything would be fine. Hell no. Turns out I was meant to know to inform them that I went to Long-term?!!! Not even the lady from CAB knew. So anyway reported this to them and they sent an award notice saying blablabla and to save financial hardship they would continue to pay the £46pw.. yet it stopped. So now I get £156 per fortnight Incapacity Benefit total....off that I have to pay £75 per week rent..
How the hell are we meant to survive? When is it gonna stop u know...0 -
You've got every right to rant!! I'm in kinda of a similar situation. I am able to work full time, have a daughter who has two life long medical conditions who cant. We struggle. It really annoys me when people moan they have no money then announce they're going on holiday at Christmas!!
Re your financial situation. Can I suggest you contact your local citizens advice bureau and see someone who can advise you as to whether you're actually getting enough help? May I also ask if everyone in your household who can help financially is actually doing so? Also does anyone owe you any money? Ask for it back. You're the one struggling, I think that you have to do whats right for you and your family. You all come first in this situation.
One day all these will seem like an awful nightmare, things do get better you just have to persevere. Hope you get on okay.
Best wishesGrowing old disgracefully!0
