12mm laminate flooring - Wickes ?

We bought 2 packs of flooring not sure whether we might need the 2nd pack we tried to return it but they would only give us 10%. They said that their returns policy is clearly marked but it is not, it's just a tiny note on the wall behind the counter, they do not verbally tell you of this policy. I will never shop there again, they have lost my custom and my goodwill.0

You must have opened the pack as it is your statory right to return something in the same condition it was sold within the time period. Did you open it and have the reciept?0

No you are wrong. It is very clear on the Wickes website that it has a 10 Year GUARANTEE - get your facts right!!!
Well done, just checked the Terms and Conditions in a store and it is a warantee. It is not guaranteed.
As soon as the word "warantee" is used in the terms and conditions in the instructions of the pack it becomes a warantee. I should kow as there is only 1 manufacturer that offers a "guarantee" on Laminate flooring, and it aint the one supplying Wickes.:D
And just what is it "guaranteed against??" Wearing? Staining? Fading?0 -
There is no real benefit to having a 12mm laminate, as it only qualifies it for a contract rating...what use is that in a lounge??? Laminate does not wear down like real wood does, hence there is no need for a massive thickness. I suggest you purchase 9.5mm at the most!
For ease of use, I would recommend either Quick-step, Balterio or Berry Wood brands, as they are easy to fit. Quick-Step is still the original and best laminate flooring system.
The majority of other brands are simply inferior copies, and you are likely to have no end of problems in joining them together!
Make sure you have underlay down!
I am pretty sure the 12mm boards sold by Wickes are actually 'MAMMUT', made by Kronospan.Profit=sanity
Turnover=vanity

Regarding guarantee...what are you guaranteed against????
Against wear????? It is never going to wear away under normal foot-traffic!
Against fading? the wood photographic layer is protected by plastic film! If it does fade, then the manufacturer will instantly blame sunlight!
Against undue wear & tear? If it has been damaged/chipped etc etc, the usual get-out clauses for the retailer are i:Bad fitting, ii: wrong underlay. the retailer will ALWAYS have an excuse for not honouring the 'guarantee'.Profit=sanity

First up Quick -Step is not the original laminate floor.
Cheap Direct Laminate products will wear over time.
Fading, the melamine resins in the "plastic film" are resistant to UV light so should not fade over time, only some manufacturers will guarantee their products not to fade, and if it does fade it is therefor a manufacturing defect and should be replaced by the manufacturer.
Wear and Tear - No one covers for general wear and tear, chips etc. If the product is shipped on installation then fair enough, but if the chip "appears" after 2 years then it had been damaged by the user. Likewise with scratches, not product is scratch proof (even sheet metal will scratch) so the floor does need looking after.
As long as the correct underlay is used (manufacturers state the ones to use and the ones to avoid, if its not on the instructions you can always contact them directly and ask) there should be no reason why an excuse of "wrong underlay" should be given. If a retailer has provided an underlay, then turns round and says it was the wrng underlay there are alarm bells ringing!0 -

Wood lasts less than laminate as it does not benefit from wear layers, its a natural product that is more susceptible to scratching, denting and marking (all the things you dont want from your floor)
Not sure I agree with this. I have original parquet in the hall and lounge of my 1930's bungalow. It was fitted when the house was built and it is in fantastic condition apart from one dent which we did when we dropped a steel filing cabinet on it.
Wood does dent, but isn't that the beauty of it, that it ages and
changes.0
