Try this little prog to determine your max MTU http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
Its a free utility. Just run and go to the largest MTU tab and press the start button. It should then give you the largest MTU for your connection. You can also set your MTU In the general settings tab. Just pick custom settings in the bottom right and change the MTU.
A little word of warning though. Whatever the program reports as the best even after you change it in the prog this is for the adapter and may not change it in the router setup page so check it there as well and change it to the same.
There is also issues with the wireless settings and if you connect any computers this way you will have to change thier MTU as well.
Some of these tips were from the Netgear site but they all worked for me.
Hope this helps0 -
The max mtu would normally be max unfragmented packet size +28 (1430+28=1458), to get speed optimizer/Dr TCP etc.. to report correct results, you will need to increase the mtu in Windows to 1500 temporarily, reboot, and test, otherwise Windows will not be able to test any speeds above your current max mtu.. My guess is that your result should match what your router Wan config screen was reporting originally.. 1458?
When you say that it is disconnecting, is that using wireless, does it do it when wired, does your actual connection to your isp drop (see router status, connection status screen).
have you changed the default router password, setup encryption, disable ssid broadcast etc). It's probably unlikely, but if you haven't done this, a neighbour could disconnect it for you..
There are some instructions on how to do this here and in the wireless sticky thread..

Thanks WOLFMAN for the heads up about the Firmware upgrade. This has fixed my wireless problems and not 1 disconnection in over 24 hours (I used to get at least 1)0

happy to have helped. Keep an eye on it. I've read a number of posts on the Netgear forums where people get great improvements for a few days, then it reverts back to how it was behaving previously.
Unticking the Aetheros Extended Range in the wireless settings helps too.
Running it upright (not checked this personally) as it runs hotter when stood horizontally.
And turning off a lot of the logging and email services.
Mines quite stable now. It does occassionally throw a wobbly, but only once in a while. Remember a few weeks back getting the latest Battlefield 2 patch and it'd just keep dropping all wireless connections everytime I resumed the download!?! Had to plug in my KCorp in the end and use it's wireless."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Also with Eclipse it needs to be changed to "PPPoA" under Network Type (and not the one it auto detects)
Found that out the hard way....lolThe only place where success comes before work is the dictionary…
