Depending on what ISP you have these routers are really bad. If you Are AOL then you definately need to change the default MTU. I would recommend checking your max MTU with the router as I Had to change mine and Im on UKonline. Also another problem is your linespeed. As these are ADSL2 compliant then if you are on any 22MB service but you cant achieve full speed you may have to ask your ISP to cap your speed to the max speed the router reports. I had to have mine capped at 18mb to stop the disconnections.
Hope this was some help.0 -
Check which firmware you have. The 0.30 beta which can be found on some websites is much better than the 0.28 or 0.25.
Also, try disabling anything you don't need, such as as any logging etc...
Changing the MTU as mentioned is a good idea. I found 1430 to be great, but it may vary for you.
Also make sure you are running it upright, it can be quite a problematic router. You just need to find the right settings."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Post your router stats, there may be a problem there.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

WHAT the hell is an MTU????

Ah Eclipse, nice. That's who I was recently with.
If you log into the router, look down the left hand column for all the sections.
Go to "Wan Setup" in "Advanced" and lower the MTU to around 1430.
Also have you upgraded to the 1.30 beta firmware? That'll make the biggest difference if you're still on the 1.28 firmware.
Go to "Router Status" in "Maintainence" and look for Firmware Version to see if you have the latest.
The 1.30 firmware isn't officially released yet. I got sent it by Netgear Support so it does work, and I've not had a problem. Check on the Netgear Forums and you'll see it's generally the firmware of choice. You can get it from here:

Many Thanks for all the replies....
I think i have managed to upgrade the firmware and have changed the MTU to 1420
Is there anything else that i should be making sure is right to do with settings?
i am running XP home SP2....is there issues with firewalls and the like?
Cheers
