Help with kitchen space

Google 'over sink strainer and board' there are a few here and there. There's a lovely wooden one on epinions but it doesn't seem to say where it is from or how much it is. There's a few plastic ones on ebay. The plastic ones have extendable arms. There was one somewhere that was metal with a smaller chopping board sitting over half strainer.0

If you don't use the back door very much you could have a hinged surface made that you can lift up into position across the door and fold it down along the side of the unit when it's not needed.0

I wouldn't say the back door is used that much, but it is used enough cos we have a dog. But def a fab idea, thanksMummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

Blimey. Whoever "designed" that needs shooting!
If you do get any money, one thing you could think about is having that draining board over to the right, so the sink stays where it is, the draining board's in the corner, giving you one 3' stretch of space to the left of the sink hole.continualdiamond wrote: »0 -
My two pennorth - I think (from the photos) that it looks as if there is quite a bit of wasted "storage space" in the floor cupboard area - to the right of the sink and near the washing machine. Is there any way of knocking out the sides of cupboards and removing middle shelf from the base unit cupboard and instead having a cheap (longer) set of shelves extending out into what looks to me like unused floorspace?
Some kitchens are so badly designed - and that corner cupboard area is often under-utilised. I've had to do a bit of "cannibalisation" myself in my kitchen to get best use of spaces like that. If/when I replace that kitchen - I will be designing it rather differently.
Second thought: is it possible to put up some plain wooden shelves running along the wall just above top of door height?0 -
The £5 Ikea folding table I mentioned above would definitely fit to the left of the door."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

I like it PasturesNew and it seems so obvious to have done that in the 1st place, now that its been pointed out.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

I think your kitchen wins any "worst layout/design in the world" competition! Hands down!
I think where you're losing out is the whole built in oven scenario. It'd be better if there was a traditional oven in place, which would give you back the hob space.0 -
Basically next to the washing machine, that top draw is a dummy, and the cupboard underneath holds all the plumbing for the washing machine and also the gas on/off thingy. It has no shelves and purely holds washing powder and stuff like that.
Def could put shelves up over back door space.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Totally agree PasturesNew, to save on cost if i could i have a whole oven/hobs in one, where the hobs are now, purely cos of the extractor fan and then where the in built oven is, have that as worktop space.
I guess when whoever did it, decided they waned the oven at height level and were quiet happy to have an under counter fridge.
A few 1st floor flats have a tall standing fridge where my oven is and obviously where the back door is they have worktop space.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
