The DS I is released in Japan quite soon but it wont be released in Europe for a long time yet. The posters kids will be very annoyed if they have to wait till it's released in the UK to get one.

The DSI is a vast improvement on the DS as it includes internet connectivity and a camera. It's like itsevolving into a smart phone like an iPhone or something.

It was actually released in Japan on 1st November, but likely to be Summer 2009 in the UK.

But I wouldn't say vast improvement - more a minor evolution. Main differences are it's got screens a quarter of an inch bigger than the DS Lite (traded for a lower battery life), two low resolution cameras (0.3 megapixel), and swaps the GBA slot for a memory card.

The wi-fi internet connectivity is already in the DS Lite - the DSi now includes web browser software, which you could already buy for the DS Lite - but I'm not sure browsing the web on your DS is much fun? (The online 'DSi Shop' you'll be able to download from may eventually add some value though)

So the kids will still be more than happy with a DS Lite this Xmas. And I don't think there's enough there to make us 'older' kids want to upgrade unless someone manages to develop a 'must have' game that uses the cameras somehow or the DSi Shop provides something truly exciting.

any good game deals around for the ds?
  • I got a DS pink from game with nintendogs (starter set) and also high school musical 3 for £115. Cheapest I found instock for just the nintendogs starter pack was £119 at ASDA so the GAME deal is really good value!

I got this this morning but was told the deal doesn't officially start til tomorrow but the codes went through the till so the nice man let me buy it a day early :)

They also had other deals starting tomorrow, one was the pack above with Hannah Montana and something else for £135 definately the best deal I found with nintendogs if thats what your after.

Got one from Gamestation yesterday. I bought a Black one with a free copy of Brain Training for £96.00. Gave up trying to get one from Tesco.

    WARNING!!

Just saw this article on the Sky New site:

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Technology/Counterfeit-Nintendo-DS-Consoles-Have-Faulty-Power-Adapters-And-Could-Cause-Harm/Article/200812115173066?lpos=Technology_Carousel_Region_4&lid=ARTICLE_15173066_Counterfeit_Nintendo_DS_Consoles_Have_Faulty_Power_Adapters_And_Could_Cause_Harm

Mostly these are available from Asian sites, but if you see cheap DS's at markets or carboot sales, or even on eBay, take extreme care that you are not getting an explosive counterfeit one.
