The Heinz program for Orchids (I didn't know they still did the Ranger 400) is designed for a BT landline, a CPS calls provider which gives free evening and weekend UK 01, 02 & 03 calls and on which a 18185 A/C is active. Hence, it'll work with Post Office Homephone and a 18185 A/C assuming they don't bar the 18185 prefix but you might find some difficulty with the program's use of the 1280 prefix which, of course, will not work if you hand over your line rental to POHP.

However, I assume you're going for that instead of BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan because of the free calls to mobiles at the weekend and, if so, you'll have to remember to override the Orchid at weekends or else your calls to UK mobiles will be routed via 18185's freephone gateway number, 08081703703, at 5p/minute instead of free over POHP).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

On reflection I may just go for the rolling 12 month contract with BT which avoids many of the potential complications and pitfalls. Havng read the reviews on the broadband I'll stick with ADSL24
  • I tried to call Primus Saver several times today on their 0800 number. On each occassion i got an announcement by an Indian sounding lady saying they were busy, and then suddenly my call was diverted to a voicemail with an American Voice. I do hope this is not a sign of things to come.

To be honest the person I phoned was useless. I dislike having to phone India for these things as they really struggle with my accent. They constantly have to speak to "supervisors" leave you on hold etc.

Just got off the phone to India where after a frustating conversation, apparently Penny Mobile 2 is no longer an option. I was trying to get Primas Saver, they are now demanding an 18 month contract.
It appears (why am I not surprised?) the new Indian Call Centre personnel have not been trained very well and are confusing the 18 month contract requirement of the Primus Home Phone (line rental and calls) + Broadband package with the no-contract Primus Calls packages.

My experience of Primus, is that they just make it up as they go along.

An example being the £15 cashback for the broadband, that ended up with the invisible T&C that they made up, that customers had to make a chargeable call to get the cashback, funny that no one was mentioned this at the point of sale, or sent any T&C either.

First thing i was sent when i signed up to o2 broadband, was an email to links for T&C and contract information.
