Magentasue - is that correct in post 4 ?

if it is teher is a bit of a mes up on teh imeasure site, they take the gas readings in cubic feet but the calculation that is down is very close to the x31 figure that you said was for gas measured in cubic meters.

    eg.
i have used 60 cubic feet since moving in, if this was multiplied by 11 it would total 660Kwh , which would seem a lot more appropriate.

if it was multiplied by 31 it comes to 1860Kwh , and they have worked it out to 1881 very close by

    are theer formulas worng ?

where did you get that info from ?

    Thanks

If your meter is imperial then each unit is 100 cubic foot of gas. Multiply your reading by 31 to give you your winning number in Kwh, 1860 Kwh.

sorry i dont follow, i have done the x31 calculation and understand that based on teh fact this should have been for cubic meters

but above it says imperial is calculated by x11 not 31 , i would assume imperial being feet and metric being meters no ?

We're the same with our gas consumption. Last week our gas concumption was 533KWh and our electricity usage was 85KWh. Apparently we have higher consumption than the national average for both utilities.
I really need to get this down but DH keeps turning the heating up. He won't be cold at night and won't wrap up in a blanket. I'm hoping that once our dining room is finished and we don't have wet plaster our usage will drop.
DH wants to put a venetian blind in there but I don't think it will be insulating enough.

    Getting myself mixed up now:D

Just realised your not the op, from your post you say its a modern house so the meter will most likely be metric (look on the meter, it should say m3 on it somewhere). If its a metric meter then you multiply the number of units used by 11 (this is just a conversion factor to convert from m3 to Kwh).

From the 5 Oct to 2nd Nov you've used 60 units of gas, or 660 Kwh, trust me this is not alot, I use that much in a week in my house. The average annual gas use is about 20000 Kwh.

Magentasue was correct in what she said in post 4, I think you have misread it.
An Imperial meter which measures in 100's of cubic feet is converted to kwh by multipying by approx 31.5.

    Hi,

    me too i think,

Im going to have to check out my meter later, but if it is in cubic meters there is no option for this on the imeasure website ?

also if feet is x31 and meters are x11 , say you used 5 units , if that was converted to KWH , using 5 units on the imperial meter would equal 155 , using 5 units on the metric meter would equal 55 - surely you would expect the usage of 5 cubic meters to be considerable more KWH than 5 cubic feet ?

but it is the opposite ? , are the formulas the worng way around ?

You have missed the important point, ie imperial meters measure in 100's of cubic feet. One unit on imperial = 100 cubic feet which is 2.83times bigger than one cubic metre.

If you go into your user settings on the imeasure website then you can change your settings for your gas meter. It gives you the option to have imperial or metric.
Is there anyone on here in the MSE group? If there is, is there any chance that you could invite me? Same user name. I've tried every combination I can think of but cannot find it and I would like to join.

Ok well i hope i am on metric then !

Thanks for telling me about the option in Imeasure and thanks for explaining the imperial measurment, things make a bit more sense now.

PHILK, if you use about 660 a week on gas (which i measure told me cost about £32 ) that means you are spending £128 a month on GAS x 12 = £1536 ! I think that is expensive do you not ?

I have read many posts about average prices and the amount of people that say they have large houses / families with their boilers on a lot and still keeping gas bills under £500 , the above figure is 3 x this , and this is where i am heading without even using my gas really soemthing must give ?

i really hope i am on a metric meter, really wanted to try and keep my fuel costs under £100 a month

If i was on metric my usage since i moved in would be 665kWh which by imeasures calc would work out about £23.27 which is much favourable than the £65 that the calculation equaled when using cubic feet option

are you on a metric or imperial meter Philk ?
