Problem With Scottish Power
Comments
-
In Scotland, Scottish Gas state certain Pay Point outlets have blank cards which are not temporary cards. The supplier finds the closest outlet, phones the outlet and gives them the customer's name. The customer then goes and collects the card (they don't have to quote any reference numbers) take it home and put it in the meter for a minute before going back to the outlet and purchasing gas. Also in Scotland, consumers can buy tokens for their electricity PPM by obtaining their MPAN reference number from their supplier. They can then use this to buy tokens from the outlet and the payment will be credited to their account.
Not quite sure where this info came from as it is out of date, and while it seems to think these options are only available in Scotland, they are also available in England and Wales.
To summarise
* When you move in call your chosen supplier - if they do not currently supply the property they can tell you who does so you can get gas/ele on today. (actually if you can call a few days before you move even better)
* If you need a new GasCard or electricity key, phone your supplier. They will be abel to tell you what they can do for you (not sure about any other suppliers than BG). For electricity you will need a code to program the key if you buy it from a shop. For both you will need to put it in the meter before you use it to top up. You may lose the money if you try to top up before it has been in the meter.
- If you have an electricity SmartCard meter you can buy temporary smartcards from some shops. The card needs to go in the meter before you put any money on it.
- If you have an electricity token meter, you can use the long number on the card to buy new tokens. If you don't have this, phone your supplier and they can tell you what it is.

It came from the Consumer Focus Website, faq for energy help and advice
Any comments, ex-energywatch advisor?

When I rang them regarding this, I was told that I had been using a Power Gen electric key to pay top up my electric and Scottish Power weren't receiving the credit. I was infact using a British Gas electric key as Scottish Power took 2 months to post me out one, so I don't know where they got Power Gen from.
The woman on the phone told me that I need to have the receipts when I topped up to prove purchase. As I didn't keep the receipts, I cannot prove purchase and the woman told me that I am liable to pay the charges.
I don't think it's fair that I have to pay for these charges when I have already paid for my electric.
If anyone could give me some advice, it would be much apprechiated.
Thank you,
Chris.

You only updated it with a similar complaint, albeit using the correct supplier's key/card, after posting in this thread
Also in your case, once you provide proof of purchase, it should be easier for SP to trace the misappropriated funds as they will be all under their control."Now to trolling as a concept. .... To be fair, your thread was initially about a different matter
