It's just happened to me too. My bank told me there were four dodgy transaction attempts in Oz and Canada. They said my card had been cloned at Shell's Crewe Toll filling station in Edinburgh. I'm just going to avoid Shell garages now even though I know the other one I use in Fife is fine as they have very little staff turnover...staff have been there ages and are non-transient. But I'm boycotting all Shell garages until they pull their finger out and find a better job interview system or supervisory strategy to stop this scam. It seems to have been going on so long (how many convictions have you heard about?) that I really don't think Shell care about the card holders whose accounts have been violated but maybe they'll care about their forecourts being boycotted. I'll just use a supermarket filling station that's not supplied by Shell until they take some serious steps...I emailed Shell customer services to ask what they're doing...basically was told

''You may be reassured by *APACS' stance on the matter: "…as ever if you are the innocent victim of any kind of card fraud you will not incur any financial loss."

Oh, that's fine, let your dodgy staff continue scamming your customers...APACs will make sure you're sorted

Its front page of tonights evening news. Its got reallyy bad now that it has happened to 2 senior policemen! I pay by cash now. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try to avoid using your cards in shell garages.

Thanks for the warning. We never ever use anything but cash in petrol stations and restaurants. Appreciate that's not always convenient but have heard so many similiar stories to yours and not willing to risk it.

sorry but i dont see why everybodys card has to have been cloned at shell garage today i found out my cards been cloned because 1 of 3 sites i ordered goods from over the past 2/3 days (all very well known sites)obviously someone got my details from 1 of them !bottom line it can and does happen all over the place.!yes youre right to raise awareness i was hacked off because of my situ

Yes I know but these are people who have used their cards in shell garages and have had their cards cloned. It is a worldwide problem and I know its not just shell garages that it happens too but we are just letting people know that it is happening there and to be vigilant. It has been in our local news and we are just letting others know who are not aware.

Does this apply to debit cards or is it only credits cards that have been cloned at Shell garages?

Mine was cloned at BP garage in Kent in the summer.

Was a debit card btw. Barclays were brilliant.

Mines was a debit aswell but Im guessing theyre not fussy and will clone either. xx
