Do Not use any cards in shell petrol stations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I stay in Edinburgh and it was either the one at leith or crewe toll that had cloned my card as its the only time i really use it, my cousin used hers in Dalkeith/Mayfield branch and she had over £200 withdrawn! Also my sister told me she had read about it in the paper a couple of weeks ago (not sure what one) so please be very careful and if you notice anything unusual please call your bank straight away and if you have to use your card please keep an eye on what they do with it as all it akes is a quick swipe and they have everything.

Hiya. Thanks for bringing this to the forum! I've been advising pals not to use their credit/debit cards at either the Crewe Toll or the Craigleith Road Shell petrol stations since the news broke on 18 October 2008 of possible card cloning.

I recall something similar happening at Shell shortly after Chip and Pin was introduced and all the Shell owned garages went back to signing for your purchases until the problem could be resolved. Obviously they've found another way !!

Ever since then I just went back to using good old counting money. You cannae beat it !!

This is awful!! I used my card in the Mayfield one around 3 weeks ago, dont think anything has dissapeared from my account. :mad:
It can only be staff surely? no one else in my opinion would have access to fiddle with a machine when no one was looking? however Im quite sure there are CCTV cameras above all tills anyway?

Makes me feel sick that we are being conned like this, by using Shell as they usually "save us cash" by being the cheaper ones in the area!

My DHs card was cloned this month, we only ever buy petrol at Tesco though.

I used the Shell petrol station at the lizzie brice have no problems,but had my Capital

one credit card cloned at Mar Hall allegdley:eek:

I believe the Mayfield incident was a few months back and the persons responsible have since moved on!

It's obviously still an active fraudI've just had a call from an online retailer querying a £260 transaction which turned out to be fraudulent. I contacted my credit card company who then preceded to list 17 other transaction totalling £2600 since my last statement which are fraudulent including 2 cash withdrawals for over £500 ind Australia £600 Tesco Direct in London £500 Vivienne Westwood clothes, several £50 transaction over the USA plus sundry other smaller amount including many iTunes transactions and something called Nat Express Elect Comm birmingham. I contacted the police who then asked which was the transaction immediately preceding the 1st fraudulent claim, & what do you know,but, its Shell Braidburn in Edinburgh. Funnily enough there is 3 weeks between the 1st fraudulent transaction and the spate of new ones.

I use Shell Braidburn a lot. I use petrol stations a lot. So this worries me.
If there is fraud, either by the owners/operators, or staff then why are they still open? Why is Shell so commonly mentioned. How are fraudsters getting info? links to machine must be checked now, as it has happened before, as has cameras in roof space.
I can't stop using credit cards, or stop using fuel, so what is the answer?
I assume all is covered by card company as long as I am careful, but still can shut you down for a few hours/days if the card is stopped.
Last time I was stopped when I used my card in a London hotel: the transaction showed up as Paris. French hotel chain! Company stopped card as I had just filled up with fuel 5 mins before, so couldn't be in London and Paris at the same time. I was glad of their vigilance tho'.

Be vigilant. Thieves are fitting devices over the card reader and glueing video cameras above the keypads to read your pin I.D. Nearly always an accomplice works in the garage who will have 'moved on' before the cloning has been discovered.
