Any experience of Utilities Warehouse BB?

Hi,
I am just considering moving to UW broadband. Although the Broadtalk laptop package is a 2 year contract, it is £29.95 per month with unlimited calls (overseas included) daytimes, evenings and weekends. Basically I can get the same deal elsewhere for £19.95, so it means a tenner a month for two years to get a 'freebie' laptop, which doesn't seem to onerous.
Any views, better suggestions, or particularly does anyone (not a UW distributors view please) have any experience of the service?
Thanks!

You have been mislead over the price, and maybe over the catch too.
Everyone has to be a member of their "club" before being able to take broadband from them. The charge for this is between £1.76 and £3 a month on top of the price you quote.
The catch is that you cannot just take the (not) "free" laptop package.
You must also agree have at least one energy service provided to you by them throughout the 24 months
This will add to the cost!
Getting independent opinions on their service is hard, as we see their reps posing as satisfied customers coming here and posting, and you can easily spot them on other sites too.
There are some reviews here: (You shouldn't have too much difficulty working out which are genuine!)

They are in competition with the Government.0

The T&C of their Laptop Offer is here.

To get 24/7 unlimited calls you have to take four of their services. Broadcall counts as 2 services, but you still have to take 2 more ,one of which must be an energy service.

I don't know about the laptop offer, so I can't comment. I've been a customer for nearly two years and I'm happy. Certain individuals on this site seem to get rather hysterical about UW for no apparent reason though.
As for reps posing as satisfied customers, they're usually both. From what my rep told me, you have to be a customer before you can be a rep. The whole reward thing sounded too 'pyramid scheme' for my liking, so I stayed away.
@ Quentin: The Utility Warehouse Discount Club - it being a club does suggest that there's membership involved.Sealed Pot Challenge number 298, up yours HSBC!0 -

This is another problem with uw people.
They just scour this board for any related thread which will enable them to post about how good they are.@ Quentin: The Utility Warehouse Discount Club - it being a club does suggest that there's membership involved
How is it a "club"? But when you say "there's membership involved", are you really saying people should expect to pay a membership fee?
The uw club isn't a "club" at all, and the membership fees are just another fixed charge their customers have to pay, thought up as another way of confusing the customers.
eg. They exclude the membership fee from any comparisons they do with the top 6 etc under their meaningless price guarantee.0 -
But surely if I take the card as well as as the services, and do all my food and petrol shopping at Sainsburys (which I already do, anyway), then the cash back I will receive will discount my utility bill and save me money?
I've tried reading through some of the comments people have made on this site regarding UW, and I'm weary from wading through nasty, spiteful, thoughtless comments. I would like some sound advice, from people who know their facts.0 -
This forum is for threads about internet access.
Discussion on the uw (including its "card") is confined to the uw thread in the gas/electric forum.
You must have seen that thread, as that is where the card is discussed, so why bring it up here?
All the facts about the card (ie the full picture, including the risks you must accept, ongoing charges, etc) are posted there.0 -
Dearest Quentin,
Please accept my humblest apologies for my faux par. I am most ashamed that I erred in such a heinous manner.
I was looking for a thread that discussed Utility Warehouse, without trading in insult and rudeness.
I thought I had found such a thread here, but you have abruptly disillusioned me. I shall trouble you no further.
Yours sincerely
