As usual I go against all the good advice. I have bought two cars on EBay both Cat D write off unseen and paid deposit via PayPal and then had car delivered and paid the balance in cash to the driver.

Not much help I know but might be an option.

personally i would go round and inspect the minibus then pay cash
if its not up to scratch then walk away,i know its not the ebay system but a cars a bit different from most ebay purchases
Surely bidding is entering into a contract? It is upto the bidder to inspect the vehicle before they bid isnt it?

I would agree with you upto a point. Since I buy unseen I like to know that the description is accurate and if I have queries I like to have these answered in writing. So if buyer buys are described as mint condition with 10,000 miles on clock but you turn up and its a heap with 100,000 miles on the clock then it can hardly be an enforceable contract.

My view of all this is (assuming you don't view) you agree a price on the description on the listing then if anthing is not as it should be eg duff tyre then you subtract than from your offer and proceed. If you feel the seller has been less than truthful you walk away.
  • Hi guys, thanks for all your replies. Just an update as I started another thread tonight for advice re the bus.

It was indeed not as described! listing mentioned one problem, rest of vehicle in 'as new' condition, but there were lots of problems. Ripped seats, bald tyres, bodywork damage etc and seller didn't turn up after 2.5 hours to get there. Just his wife saying he would be 15 mins!! Anyway, no-one to negotiate with so hubby came home, disappointed but having learnt a lesson. Just looking at best course of action with ebay.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
