Sorry to disagree here, but I went to Ask last week and we used one voucher for a party of 6 and we got 3 main meals free.

Don't be sorry to disagree - as shown by the powers at MSE HQ - I was wrong in my interpretation - and I'm glad I was wrong as now OP has great ammunition to hopefully get money back (and some form of compensation). It also means that whenever I see the terminology again I'll now know what their interpretation is!
Another win for the Consumer - good work! :j

I think that any MSEers in the area should make a point of testing these vouchers in the coming week or so!

Go in parties of 4 or 6 to the Blackheath Cafe Rouge (before 5pm!) and/or the Greenwich one, and - in case you need it as ammo(!) at the end of the meal - take along a printed copy of this forum thread as well as multiples of the voucher in case they insist on more than one.

But don't say anything up front, just politely offer one voucher to cover your free meals, and see if they are playing ball now. I would love to see how everyone gets on, clearly it's an ambiguously-worded voucher but categorically, 2 for 1 is the same as BOGOF, simple as that (especially with the 'maximum of 6 people per party' caveat).

Should be fun, wish I was near there! Bet it's not the last of this story though. :rotfl:

OP, did the HO say they had spoken to the 2 franchises in question to make sure it doesn't happen again?

Hey, what a good idea, shame I am going away tomorrow for a while otherwise I would have done just that to test if it worked!

Cafe Rouge does not run as franchise (I checked that in advance because sometimes franchises can make their own rules - to a point). The HO said that they would "bring them up to scratch", both for Blackheath and Greenwich, and would "compensate" me. I hope I get a nice free meal voucher, you never know!

  • Dear all MSE members,

I am very sorry to hear about these negative experiences and hope that Caterina you are ok after speaking with Chris in customer services. I have spoken to both of our managers personally in Blackheath and Greenwich to reiterate the terms and conditions.

    To confirm the offer details are as follows;

    - buy one full priced main meal and get an other same or lesser priced meal free

    - One voucher can be used for up to six people dinning i.e. maximum three meals free when another 3 are purchased

    - this offer is valid Sunday - Thursday

We have re-briefed all of our managers to ensure that they are clear on all of the terms and conditions of this offer. It can be a little tricky sometimes feeding down information to all 105 managers at once and sometimes they do get confussed! But again we are not meaningfully trying to dupe any customers.

If any one has had a voucher refussed or the terms and conditions not adheard to please give our customer services team a call on 0207 121 3200 and we will investigate this incident.

    Blimey, I am impressed!

Thank you Charlie Turnbull, this is such a good gesture of goodwill towards customers that I shall be sure to frequent Cafe Rouge again, voucher or no voucher. This is what I call good customer care!

But if there are 4 of them they can get 2 meals free anyway...it's the Greenwich Cafe Rouge which has misinterpreted the terms & conditions as clarified to the OP by the CR Head Office.

But in general, yes, in general one could do as you suggest but maybe arrive/book separately as 2 couples then spot each other - 'what a coincidence, let's sit together' etc!

Yes I noticed that Cafe Rouge will allow six, but I know ask only let one person out of the party get the free meal. I would definately ask for two bills and say we are separate and see them trying to get out of that one lol:j:j
Never argue with a fool, they will lower you to their level and then beat you with experience.........!!!:rotfl::T

Not sure if it can be but maybe the thread title should be changed now.

This is not true of the Ask where I live. In fact, they are so nice they went even further.

Last night, I visited Ask with a group of friends. There were 9 of us in all, and they gave us three of the meals we ordered free with the Ask voucher that I submitted.

I may visit Cafe Rouge at the weekend, but that would only be as part of a couple.

Just an update, I have just returned back from my trip to Italy to find £15 worth of coupons valid for Cafe Rouge and a lot of other restaurants too (Strada etc...). I am definitely really satisfied with the outcome of the complaint I made!

Thank you MSE for the power you give the consumers!
