How will student bf affect my benefits?

I live in a council flat with our 2 year old daughter. He is a student, and I am a full time mum, but will also be a student next year. We are both 22 and want to live together, but are worried we won't be able to live money wise. I get child tax credit, child benefit, income support and CT and H Benefit. What will change if we decided to live together? We don't want to lose out and will wait if we have to. Thanks

...all of which totally ignores the fact it costs more to run two seperate homes than one.

If the only adults in the house are students (ie you don't have a lodger/live with family) then you won't have to pay council tax.

Still get child tax credits and child benefit

Presumably both have student loans but no income support - housing benefit would depend on the amount coming in (ie loans)
  • but im not a student. at the moment only he is, so would i no longer be able to get income support?

  • it doesnt offer any choices to do with students. it just assumes he doesnt work at all. and the people on the benefits line are useless

If the people WORKING on the benefits line are useless maybe you should take your custom elsewhere.
It doesn't offer options for students as they are not usually entitled to benefits.
  • unless you are a parent. it seems as soon as we say we live together, we get no help. single people need help, but we shouldnt be punished for trying to be a family. and you say take custom elsewher... sorry where exactly would that be?

What about the people who work for a living and don't have children that they can't support and who are punished by having their money taken from them by the government.

When he moves in you are no longer a single parent so wouldn't get income support for that reason (if however you get IS because you are sick and just don't qualify for Incap then you are still entitled)

It is possible to raise a child (children) with student loans and CTC etc, one of you really needs to get a part time job at least - if you do it at a time when the other is at home you don't have to pay child care
