I qualify for the single persons discount of 25%, and the £80 includes the discount.

Mon-Thurs night £80 pw. Then travel to/from london once a week. Maybe some travel around London. Food- you'd have to eat anyway so should cost the same as now. You won't be using gas/elec while you're in London. You won't be so tired, hopefully.

How much os your daily travel currently?

I'm also thinking if you stay over that your quality of life may be better as you can go to museums etc, maybe do a free or cheap course in your time off. Rather than spend the time travelling?

if you don't want to give up this job the only other alternative as i see it is to move closer to london so the travel costs come down.

You can rent a room in shared house to a few months to get to know the area and then find a place of your own.

Could you get any part time work at all, even minimum wage office cleaning or something like that, reasonably close to where you are working? It wouldn't be great, but it might help the books to balance while you get your career back on track.

Thank you, Whitewing and All. What does 'os' mean? I'm spending £20.65 for a travelcard (all zones) Mon, Tues and Fri (which includes a discount from having a young persons railcard), and then the other problem is Wed and Thurs early starts, which cost in the region of £38 travel card per day = £76.

another thought - how much would you save by buying a monthly or 6 monthly travel ticket? .if it is quite significant, then i think you should ask your work if they will give you a loan to buy it and then deduct a monthly amount. of you tell them how much you pay now and that you can't really afford to work for them... (and remember, they begged you to take on more mornings so they must want you to work for them).

I've looked up a big youth hostel near to where I work: £17.50 per night Mon, Tues & Wed, Thurs is £22.50 = £75, plus say, £10 coach travel both to and from London on the Mon morning and Friday evening = £85.

    £116 (season ticket) - £85 rent/travel = £31.

£31 divided into say 5 days for food = £6.20 to include lunch and tea.

    This means I break even?!

    Suzkin,

How about you try the youth hostel for Tues night and Wed night for a couple of weeks starting this week, to see how you get on and whether that does make a difference practically and financially.
