Actually, can you verify an obvious question.
When I run the setup wizard then the last question is whether I want to make a network setup disc and I always choose the last option - no I don't. I just run the wizard on each machine seperately. I assume that this is the way to do it.

Well, I've managed to transfer the files I wanted to transfer. I did a search for a computer and then the laptop found my computer and allowed me to copy shared files over. Looks like the problem is the main computer. ie: the laptop and the old machine work properly. The problem seems to be that neither the old machine nor the laptop are allowed to connect to the new machine.

I've been told by someone else that reinstalling windows can fix inexplicable problems. There are quite a few error messages on the new machie, plus it couldn't install some new software recently. It's actually got two copies of XP on it, a legacy from when my father took it to PC World a year or so ago for them to "fix" it. Hence why I'm going to sort it out properly this time.

I will unplug the problem machine and see if the other two can exist in harmony.
You do not need Internet Connection Sharing on any computer in your network!!
Yes, I worked this out for myself!
Your internet connection comes from your router! Follow the wires!

*only joking, thanks for the help.
DHCP lease will expire eventually and the list will be cleaner.
I've just found the option for this on the set up control panel and I've set it to 30 minutes lease so that the other crap will disappear.
