Heres the sound driver anyway just download and reinstall

Tried the hardware test but again no joy,so resorted to a restore.Went back a couple of days to a point before "shockwave player" which I have no memory or knowledge of installing.Result,volume..thanks for the link to the sound driver though Intel,I will save for it future reference0

i am having the same problem with my computer. i have tried all the things you put in the list but none of them work. when i restart my computer it works but then the next time i start up, it does not. so this is not really fixing the problem. apparently the only thing that work is to go back to an earlier restore point. could someone please advise me on how to go about this.

Start, Run, Type msconfig, Click on Launch System Restore.0

i have tried everything mentioned before. restarting my computer is only a temporary solution. system restore worked, but only temporarily. my computer will play the windows sounds such as start up, but it will not play music or the audio from a video.
please help!!
