I generally check both Amazon and Play.com and list on either or both depending on how much other sellers are offering them for.

If you do list on both, remember to close the listing on the other when it sells (you could in theory get sales from both at the same time - nice problem to have, but not happened to me yet - so you would need to refund one of them).

Neither charge a listing fee - Amazon will give you a postage credit, where as with Play your listing price needs to include postage.

Thanks that's really helpful. i had a look at amazon, I'm a bit confused by this 'postage credit' do amazon decide what the postage is and give you the money back?

There is a long thread about selling on Amazon.I'll bump it for you, that should explain how it all works.

Basically though you set a price, say 1p and to that the buyer pays a set postage fee, for books it is £2.75, so buyer pays £2.76 to Amazon for their book. However Amazon then take fees of 83p per item plus VAT and charges and pass over the balance to the seller and out of the money paid to the seller the seller has to pay all shipping and packing costs. On that 1p book that the buyer has paid £2.76 for the non pro seller gets £1.44.

That is really only the briefest explanation . However before you hit confirm to list anything on Amazon it tells you exactly what you will get from Amazon if the item sells, unless that figure covers all your expenses and postage don't list it.
