W certainly wouldn't want a kid to feel 'thought less of' or more importantly lose confidence because of this in a highly acadmic environment. NDG, very impressed at you learning Hebrew!
Don't be impressed. Isaac's overtaken me
I gather bilingual children are often slower to talk, certainly that was true for Isaac....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I spoke early but in both launguages garbled together. DH and his siblings all spoke later, and that is certainly the trend in his family, but he seems to think they were clearer than my parents described me as being as to who spoke what language. What is interesting is that he and his brother favour one language, while his sister prefers another. A friend of mine has a seven year old son who is tri-ligual. He speaks a mixture of the three with people he thinks will speak all three, but he gets the idea generally.
He was a concern to his teachers until this year. Since starting school everything was very behind all the other children, but this year he tops his class in everything. We went on a walk last summer and he was telling me the Italian for things that I thought were quite advanced for a child to know in one language let alone three! 0 -
Isaac has pretty much always decided whether a person is a Hebrew or English speaker, and stuck to that one language with them.
There are a few words he only says in one language or another, such as "cuddles" and "no" in English, and "toh dah" (thank you) and "Abba" (Daddy) in Hebrew. He calls me Mummy when speaking in English, and Eema when speaking in Hebrew.
He also calls trains "ee-bees" which is an Isaac-only word (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I wish I had done that with ours but we were both English speaking, so didn't apply.
I was Welsh /English when small but the Welsh got wiped out when we moved...I learnt it at school, so not from parents.
But I have bi-lingual Russian / English nephew and niece (1 + 3) fascinating esp as my bro (the dad) hardly speaks any Russian at all.0 -

Ok new to this, I applied for my bank charges last year and got a letter this year saying I was'nt entitled to them. I'm working and living on a low income, but keep getting text messages telling me to go for my bank charges back. Can I still request them all back even though i've been told i'm not entitled to them? Any help please.0

There are rules on 'Financial Hardship' that may allow your claim to go through the courts but all claims , bar those, are on hold.
If anyone asks you for upfront fees etc....don't go near them.
This site can help you do it on your own.0 -

I don't think its a biggy either way
Makes sense for us with family linguistics, but I wish we had a more universal second/third language. Would be fun to go for something widely spoken in new makets, like Urdu, Farsi or Arabic, but unfortunatly beyond our capabilty and perhaps not so useful in our family.;) DH remembers no Hebrew at all (ok first line of what he had to say at Bar Mitzvah:rolleyes: ) but you are going to find someone in most of the world (ok, excluding Islamic regimes). lol. 0 -

Oh god, I'm appalled now. It was a joke.
I feel dirty now for asking!
I couldn't accept your generous offer. Clothes don't suit me anyway and er .. *blushes* .. boy, it's hard back tracking!
I'll think about it. But I'd send you some pics of me if I do pluck up the courage to accept freebies from strangers, which makes me feel awkward.0
