Buying a Holiday Home in Turkey
Comments

looks like the turkey property market sellers have come on here...they have one motive.....money...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I sell apartments in Turkey and yes I have seen some very poor building quality which is worrying but some is fine, you need to do your homework. I have apartments in Istanbul (very central location) with can be a fine investment for the longer term especially in a booming city. There are lots of apartments on the coast, they build far too many which are not selling. Something is worth only what someone is willing to pay.
Buying abroad can be great, just make sure you do your homework and use the right people.

Isn't Turkey on an eartquake line?
Google "ring of fire" and you'll find much of Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, US West Coast (inc San Francisco, Los Angeles etc) all sitting on a fault line. Millions of people living in large developed cities. Doesn't stop them.
As others say though, the place will probably fall down of it's own accord in a brisk wind.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
Well hubby and I are taking a winter break after Christmas and shall be visiting both Turkey and North Cyprus. He is absolutely against the idea of purchasing but is happy to holiday and relax for 2 weeks while I do some viewings. I have not had a chance to research the internet sites about Turkish Living as I have been so busy with the run up to Christmas but I will take your good advice and have a browse.
Out of interest are there any people on here who own a property in Turkey?0 -

You'll hear about homes being demolished coz they were built illegally (unbeknown to the buyers! ) and about all the gun crime, murders, crooks, beatings, Turkish mafia, conmen, shady businessmen doing dodgy deals, loverats, houses full of damp and falling to bits, blocks of concrete apartments being thrown up and taking away your view of the sea or countryside, people moving in to your apartment while you are in England - which you know nothing about, people using your goodness to take your money and abuse your hospitality, people marching in to your home and using your computer for hours at a time, being beaten up by the police......
also, people cannot sell their places in Turkey so they become totally worthless and are overpriced to begin with. Anyone buying in Turkey will live to bitterly regret it.
on top of that all the places are very badly built - or rather THROWN UP.
Please think again. Do not waste your money.
There certainly is a lot of fly by night estate agents in Turkey. The scary thing is they often seem so respectable and have offices all over Turkey! Terrible things I've heard.................0 -
I own property in Turkey and have been here for 5 years now and its the best thing I ever did! Its relaxing, friendly and of course great weather for at least 9 months of it. Even winters are milder than uk in the area Im in which is Hisaronu. I cant believe how offputting most of you have been and put these people off from buying! Yes there are people who get ripped off but they are stupid people who dont do any research and get off the plane and as soon as the hot weather hits them they loose theyre brain and seem to trust EVERYONE. The food can be cheap and also expensive depending on what and where you wish to eat. If you live here as a local you get to know the good places to eat and shop. Yes electric and petrol has gone up but hasnt it everywhere?? And yes there can be earthquakes here but you can purchase a DAMSK which is earthquake insurance!! My place has a bit of damp in the winter months but my place in uk has much more damp than this apartment has!! Oh and as for the comment about bombs in Marmaris well thats 3 hours drive from me here, what really annoyed me was people werent coming here on holiday and cancelling at that time because of 'the bombs in Marmaris' errr hello its 3 hours drive away!! When there were bombs in London every 5 minutes and I lived in Norwich (2 hours drive away) did I wish to uproot and move every time NO! English people, english news, xmas, new year always go WELL OVER THE TOP about everything its about time they relaxed and got their facts straight and experienced these things before making these types of comments! This year the property market was very slow and definately not the best but where in the world has it been good???? Theres a credit crunch hitting everywhere its no good slagging off Turkey!!

How do you 'loose' your brain??? And why do you do it when the weather is hot?? Can't you just wear a hat!:D
Anyway, a lot of what you say is very wrong! The winters in Turkey are wet! Almost as wet as some of the people who loosen their brains when they land in Turkey! And the winters are cold too - which is why everyone has to wear thermals on top of their thermals.
Only a turkey would buy somewhere in Turkey now.:p
Oh, one question: why don't you do something about your damp? You should do - otherwise people will think you're a bit of a drip - and you don't sound like a drip at all!:rotfl:0 -
If you are seriously thinking about buying in northern cyprus, have a look at the foreign office advice, as there are still some legal issues around ownership disputes from people who were displaced in the 1974 events.

also this one.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Northern Cyprus is Turkish ruled which says it all really.
I want to know where these people come from who blindly buy properties in dodgy countries.0
