I am an Aussie, and I have been back home a few times since moving here.
Last time I went back was for my best friend's wedding, and I didn't know until 3 weeks beforehand if I was allowed to take the time off work.
So I didn't book until 20 days before travel.
I still only paid £615 for my flights, that was in May, and with Qantas.
So you don't always have to buy so early to get good prices - June/July in Australia is a great time to visit and you should be able to get good prices.
Why not wait a while and book after the baby comes?
  • If I were traveling alone I prob would wait. Since there are 4 of us I worry it could be tricky. Also my FIL and MIL are not young and they like to have things squared away so would really want our dates in advance of our arrival and we will need to hire a car with car seats etc (though I hope that this won't be a problem).

Thanks for the tips though, esp with the kids but even before them we prefer to go in the winter to WA, their summers are so hot! The only annoying thing about WA compared with NSW is the choice of airlines is smaller.
  • does anyone think flying this way (stop in Dubai so 2 x 10.5 hr flights)

Flight from Uk to dubai is usually only! 7 hrs, might even be less from england.
