Quick way of transfering money?

A family member has just cashed a 4k cheque which will clear on Friday. 3k of that needs to go to me and my brother (1.5k each).
Me and my brother were hoping to get the money into our banks that weekend, though if the cheque clears on Friday, I'm not sure if that's possible.
Is there a way of transfering money to someones bank account the same day/next day?
The only ways of tranfering money that I'm aware of are cheque (5-7 days) and bank transfer (3k).
We don't want to deal with cash, as that can be a little tricky getting 3k cash out of someones bank and paying it into mine. The person giving us the money is wish First Direct and we're with Lloyds TSB and Natwest.
Any suggestions?

CHAPS, £25 a pop. £1.5k with FD might well go by the Faster Payments Service, however, so that might be an option.0

I had to transfer 2K from my bank account at one bank to my ISA in another. I could either pay £10 for a bankers draft or walk the 20 metres down the high street with cash in hand. I chose the latter as it didn't cost me anything.Trying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)Loan from Friend = £20000

A pair of £1.5K FP's sent from FD to LTSB & NatWest will* arrive same day.
* Check your accounts can receive FP's...

Have you been using Bill payment for this, or there's a special option for faster payments?0 -
I moved £15,000 from my NR esaver on 4/11/08 and was pleased to find it was there in my LloydsTSB current account today, 6/11/08. I then wanted to transfer that to my wife's HSBC current account. I was limited to £10,000 so did that. LTSB online banking indicates it will pay out next day. Will it be credited to my wife's account on the same day, ie by the Faster Payments process? Will I be able to follow with the remaining £5000 as soon as the £10000 has processed?
Does anyone find that using phone banking for Fast Payments is quicker than online?
